me was build in 2013, and is located in Floahreppur, which is like the gateway to all main attractions in South Iceland. It is located off state-road 30, just 2,3 km north off Interstate 1 , on a peaceful gated private land. The home is also close to the Golden Circle, and many other main attractions. Each home will have a different style, this home has a contemporary style designed by a International staging and redesign professional. The home has three bedrooms, two bedrooms both with double beds, and one bedroom with a double bed with a bunk bed, all with highest quality of mattresses and eiderdown duvets, all bedrooms have a light eliminating window-rollers one bathroom with shower, high standard bathtowels-handtowels and washcloths and a hairdryer. The dining table can seat upto 8 people, as it is open to the kitchen and makes all serving very easy. The kitchen is fully equipped with a large American fridge(fridge/freezer/icemaker/running water)dishwasher, full size stove, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, big toaster, blender,dishes, glasses, pots/pans utensils,silverware etc. In the hallway is a washer and dryer, all in the same unit, so you can go home with a suitcase full of clean clothes, there you can also find iron and ironing board

The patio hasa a big Stainless steal BBQ, and outdoor furnitures. After a long day out just to sit back and relax with a glass of wine on the patio and enjoy the view.The highlights is of course, your beautiful sinery with a spectacular view. During the winter time – watching the Aurora Borealis- just breathtaking. The home is fully inspected and licensed by the authorities, so you are assured that all security is upto date. We have an experienced local caretaker that is living on the premises who will ensure that the home is ready for your arrival and will respond to any needs that may arise during your stay. However you must be aware that the home is self catering environment. Summer: price pr. night $ 200

The eruption at Geldingadalur shows no signs of slowing down 🌋
On March 19th, lava began erupting inside Geldingadalur by Fagradalsfjall, a natural depression whose name means Eu**ch Valley 🙈, possibly a reference to early settlers' practice castrating animals in the region.

The Reykjanes peninsula, in SW Iceland, has six volcanic systems with SW-NE orientating fissure swarms. Volcanic activities seem to occur in periods that can last up to 400-500 years. The last eruption on the peninsula was 781 years ago. During that rifting event, the volcanic activity started at Brennisteinsfjöll, the easternmost volcanic system, and then progressively moved to the next one, ending within the westernmost Reykjanes system in 1210-1240. Interestingly, the last event left out Fagradalsfjall volcanic system, where there hasn't been an eruption for more than 6000 years!

The composition of the lava is primitive. It's olivine tholeiite, most likely coming from the crust-mantle boundary located at about 15-17 km underneath the Reykjanes Peninsula. The lava shows only minor signs of chemical alteration, which would have occurred if the lava had been stored in shallower reservoirs in the crust for a longer period. The temperature of the lava is between 1180-1190°C, and it is thinner and richer in CO2 than the typical fissure eruptions on the Reykjanes peninsula.

The eruption is small; the lava flow has been steady at a volume of 5-10 m3/second from the beginning. If it keeps on going at a similar rate, the lava will fill the Geldingadalur valley and then flow east towards Merardalur valley. But this modest eruption could also mark the beginning of something bigger. If the volcano continues to erupt for years, we might see the formation of a new shield volcano (thin lava flows, resulting in gentle slopes and a low wide cone).

The Geldingadalur eruption has already provided scientists with invaluable data. It offers an opportunity to study the long-term volcanic activity of SW-Iceland. It has helped identify the mantle source and understand the mantle melting processes occurring underneath Iceland. It has given a unique insight into an eruption process that hasn't been observed in Iceland for a long time. Hopefully, the volcanic eruption will last for a long time for scientists to gather more data and for everyone else to enjoy 😊
