🇬🇧 I was very sorry to have to leave Calabria. His beauties had exerted a kind of magical ascendant on me and I felt that it would be eternal. I had the feeling that anything I would have seen in the future would not have given me such pleasant and indelible feelings. About this I have no doubts.
On the contrary, I have the presumption to affirm that in no other part of Europe nature has traced in such a magnificent way the lines that the genius and the human work must follow or the efforts of art to improve.

🇮🇹 Provavo un gran dispiacere a dover lasciare la Calabria. Le sue bellezze avevano esercitato una specie di magica ascendenza su di me e sentivo che sarebbe stata eterna. Avevo la sensazione che qualsiasi cosa avessi visto in futuro non avrebbe suscitato in me sensazioni altrettanto piacevoli ed indelebili. Di questo non ho dubbi.
Anzi, ho la presunzione di affermare che in nessun’altra parte d’Europa la natura ha tracciato in modo così magnifico le linee che il genio e l’opera umana devono seguire o gli sforzi dell’arte migliorare.

🇬🇧 Someone said that tradition is a progress that has been successful. We must never forget that what we do and say will become tradition for those who come after us.
We must not therefore be content to transmit what we have received, we must add something new. Thus, each generation abandons part of the traditions of the past and adds something of its own.
🇮🇹 Qualcuno ha detto che la tradizione è un progresso che ha avuto successo. Non bisogna mai dimenticare che quello che facciamo e diciamo diventerà tradizione per chi verrà dopo di noi.
Non ci si deve quindi accontentare di trasmettere ciò che si è ricevuto, bisogna aggiungere del nuovo. Così, ogni generazione abbandona una parte delle tradizioni del passato e aggiunge qualcosa di suo.
