The best hotels have one clear story

Look at the hotels Travel + Leisure chose to mention. Giraffe Manor has giraffes at breakfast. Jade Mountain in St. Lucia has open-air rooms facing the Pitons. Dromoland Castle has 500 acres and a 16th-century castle story. Atlantis The Palm has underwater suites and a giant water park.

You can describe each place in one sentence.

That is not an accident. The strongest hotels know what guests will say when they go home.

On the Amalfi Coast, many places already have that sentence. They just do not always say it clearly enough.

A small apartment in Atrani might be “sleeping inside one of Italy’s tiniest seaside towns.” A room in Ravello might be “waking up above the coast, away from the day-trip crowds.” A stay in Amalfi could be “living a few steps from the cathedral bells and the ferry pier.”

6:47 AM. Eric is questioning every life choice that led him here. Ashley is already at the door.

This is what happens when you book a sunrise shoot in Positano on your just one week in Italy.

You set an alarm that feels illegal, you drink awful hotel coffee, and you walk into a town that for once is completely empty. No queues. No scooters. No “scusi, scusi” elbow dance. Just the bay turning pink and two very awake (eventually) Americans letting me follow them around with a camera.

Ashley and Eric, you were so good. Thanks for trusting some guy on the internet to ruin your sleep schedule for art.

📍 Positano, before the world wakes up.

DMs open if you want to do something equally ill-advised this summer.

As a photographer working on the Amalfi Coast, I get to know the places here really well. Sometimes I know the owners too, and they invite me over to shoot their apartments and villas.
This one is special. “Apartment with terrace with spectacular sea views” in conca di marini. Top 1% of homes on the coast, and the moment you step onto that terrace you understand why. It attracts a certain kind of guest. Romantics. People who notice light. People who travel to feel something.

This time the guest found me herself and booked my Airbnb Experience, and I’m really grateful she did.
Prep is almost nothing for a shoot like this. Put on something you feel good in, pour a cup of coffee, wake up early enough to catch the first colors of the day.
The morning was cloudy. I thought it might be a problem. It wasn’t. The light turned out softer and the colors deeper than anything a studio could give you.
Sometimes the sky knows better than the forecast.

The traffic wardens are back. Starting April 1, the orange-vested crew returns to the most chaotic spots along SS 163 to manage the spring and summer traffic crush.

If you've driven the coast road during peak season, you've seen them — stationed at blind corners in Positano, Praiano, Amalfi, and the Castiglione junction above Ravello, waving cars through one at a time when the road turns into a standoff between tour buses and rental Fiats.

They're not a long-term solution. But for now, they're the only thing keeping the road from turning into a parking lot.

Ferrari just named their latest supercar after our coastline. The Ferrari Amalfi Spider.

After launching the Amalfi coupe last July, Maranello released the convertible version. This is an open-air supercar built specifically for top-down driving, not just a car with the roof cut off.

The fabric roof drops in 13.5 seconds. You can operate it at speeds up to 60 km/h (37 mph), so there's no need to pull over. The five-layer fabric keeps the cabin surprisingly quiet when closed. With the top down, you get 172 liters of trunk space. Close it up and you have 255 liters.

Under the hood sits a 640-horsepower V8 biturbo engine. Zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.3 seconds. Zero to 200 km/h in 9 seconds flat. Top speed over 320 km/h (199 mph). No hybrid system here.

Couple of words about off season in Amalfi

Big features in Forbes and Condé Nast Traveler confirm what locals already know: Amalfi in the off-season is calmer, more personal, and often more enjoyable.

I tell every tourist and guest the same thing: "Pizza with french fries is not a real thing." Except it is. Globalization is coming for our food, and it's winning. The target audience is twelve-year-olds, and the eating ritual goes like this: first you dip each fry into the cooled-down mozzarella and tomato sauce. Then you eat the sausage bits separately with a fork.
