A word of warning for travellers to Shenghen areas.

It’s a little known rule and nuance that crops up now and again.

PLEASE NOT ONLY CHECK YOUR EXPIRY DATE BUT ALSO THE ISSUE DATE!! 🚨

It’s cropped up twice recently for us with guests and friends of friends

The 10-Year Rule (Issue Date): On the day you enter the EU, your passport must have been issued less than 10 years ago.

The 3-Month Rule (Expiry Date): Your passport must remain valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned date of departure from the Schengen

It certainly applies to U.K. passport holders and if Google is correct Americans too so probably some other countries outside Shenghen

The problem arises due to Some passports are valid for longer than 10 years because some countries passport offices add "extra time" to a renewed passport if the previous one wasn't due to expire immediately
