📚 Nardò’s historic books are going digital!

Selected precious volumes from Nardò’s Historical Archive have been digitised through Smart-HUBs Interreg GR-IT.

🌐 The scanned pages will become part of an immersive 360° virtual library, accessible via a web app with interactive hotspots—helping preserve the originals while opening up their heritage to a wider audience.

🏛️ The Chiostro dei Carmelitani is being transformed into an accessible cultural, training and multimedia hub, with workshops, interactive experiences and Braille information sheets.

💡 Beyond welcoming visitors, the hub will host three training paths for young people not in employment, education or training (NEETs): 720 hours combining theoretical and practical learning with on-the-job training to build skills for the cultural and creative industries and bridge the gap between education and employment.

🌍🤝 Building more inclusive employment opportunities across borders!

Two inspiring days in Mola di Bari, Italy, dedicated to the Interreg "Progress", hosted by Consorzio Elpendù! 🇮🇹🇬🇷

The event opened with the Infoday, bringing together stakeholders to share key research findings on the employment inclusion of people with disabilities in Italy and Greece, review ongoing activities, and introduce the upcoming Cross-Border Test.

💙 One of the most powerful moments was hearing the stories of three young people employed in Barilla’s logistics department. Their first-hand experiences highlighted how access to employment can foster independence, personal growth, and genuine inclusion.

🤝 The programme continued with the official partners’ meeting, focusing on key project activities:

🔹 WP1 – Coordination: project implementation and management
🔹 WP2 – Communication: strengthening visibility and outreach
🔹 WP4 – Cross-Border Test: reviewing progress, achievements, and next steps

Together, we are working towards a more inclusive labour market, where everyone has the opportunity to develop their potential and participate fully in society. 💪✨

🌍 Our ENERGIE project at the 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲!

Through the event “Attracting Talent for Strong Regions: Policies and Tools for Sustainable Territorial Regeneration”, the Interreg Greece–Italy Programme actively participates in the European Week of Regions and Cities 2026, contributing to the European debate on regional development, talent attraction and territorial regeneration.

Use Digital Twin technologies to test scenarios, connect data and support better-informed decisions before changes happen in the real port.

This is the simple ambition at the heart of Interreg Be:Twin

On 1 October, partners met in Bari for the 3rd Project Steering Committee, together with representatives of the Interreg Greece - Italy Joint Secretariat.

A full day of discussion, coordination and new ideas to move the project from methodology towards implementation.

Taranto and Patras bring different experiences and levels of digital maturity but share the same goal: developing an approach that can adapt to different port environments and generate value beyond the two pilot ports.

Two ports. Two countries. One shared path towards smarter port management.

From field data to shared action! 🇬🇷🇮🇹

On September 28–29, TAGsTwo - Interreg Greece-Italy partners met in Western Greece, hosted by Αγροδιατροφική Σύμπραξη Περιφέρειας Δυτικής Ελλάδας / Agrifoodwest. The programme combined the 3rd Project Meeting, visits to a pilot monitoring station, Aitolia Olives, Pineios Dam and TOEV Pyrgos, and a Workshop in Ancient Olympia.

🌿 Connecting precision farming, olive processing and sustainable water management through Greek Italian cooperation!

🎡 Cohesion Policy in action: learning, engaging and connecting with young people!

More than 300 students joined “Cohesion Policy: spin the wheel, win a gift!”, the interactive event held at the Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών University of Patras on 9 October 2026 and promoted by the Interreg VI-A Greece–Italy Programme, with the support of Miriam Semeraro, Interreg Volunteer Youth - IVY reporter at the Joint Secretariat.

📍 As part of the Welcome to UP! Festival, the Peace Park became a meeting point for young people eager to discover European Cohesion Policy through quizzes, games, short interviews and the ever-popular wheel of fortune!

Beyond the fun, the event highlighted how European territorial cooperation creates opportunities for young people to gain experience, develop skills and contribute to a more connected Europe through volunteering, international cooperation and Interreg projects.

The initiative also strengthened the dialogue between the Programme and the academic community. On this occasion, the Rector of the University of Patras, Professor Christos Bouras, welcomed a delegation from the Programme, composed by Maria Nezeriti (head of Managing Authority Interreg 2021-2027) and Gianfranco Gadaleta (coordinator of the Joint Secretariat), with Professor Kostas Giotopoulos of the University of Patras and Katerina Kapota, local JS info point officer, reaffirming the value of cooperation between European programmes and universities in bringing EU policies closer to younger generations.

A big thank you to everyone who took part, included projects partners and members of the Monitoring Committess, always ready to support Programmes's initiatives, as Takis Papadopoulos (Western Greece Region)! 💙

🌿 NATURES in Action: Strengthening cross-border cooperation for biodiversity protection!

📍 On 7 October 2026, the NATURES project brought together partners, environmental experts and stakeholders in Bari, at the Puglia Region premises, for a workshop dedicated to the conservation of priority species and habitats.

🐢 From sea turtles and European eels to Eurasian otters and Mediterranean habitats, the event showcased the conservation plans developed through Italy–Greece cooperation, fostering knowledge exchange and stakeholder engagement.

🤝 A concrete step towards shared conservation strategies and more effective biodiversity protection across borders!

🌿 NESTS in Montalbano Jonico! 🇮🇹🇬🇷

On 7 October, the Province of Matera hosted the NESTS International event, bringing together institutions, biodiversity experts and protected-area managers to exchange experiences and best practices for biodiversity conservation. 🤝

🌱 The event, held in Montalbano Jonico (Italy), featured three thematic sessions exploring European biodiversity priorities, Natura 2000 site management and cross-border conservation practices, with a focus on coastal ecosystem protection, freshwater turtle conservation and innovative technologies for environmental monitoring.

🌍 A dedicated roundtable discussion focused on the future Permanent Biodiversity Observatory, exploring its governance and role in supporting data sharing, joint conservation strategies and lasting cooperation between Italy and Greece.

The event concluded with a study visit to the stunning Calanchi di Montalbano Jonico Nature Reserve, where the Province of Matera's NESTS pilot action will focus on the ecological restoration and enhancement of existing trails and visitor facilities, promoting sustainable access while protecting the area's unique natural heritage.
