April 15-21 turned out to be a glorious time for a family from Wichita to be here! Our own gardens were lovely and the day trips to Bergamo, Como and Bellagio, and visits to Val Curone, were incredibly full of beauty. If you love flowers and stunning views and good food (and much smaller crowds), we can very highly recommend gathering up to 10 friends and renting the villa in April! Any time of year is lovely here but we do love spring and its mixture of sun, rain and clouds and all the gorgeous flowering things!

We have room for one or two more couples May 4-10! Care to join? May in Northern Italy is so lovely! We take day trips to hilltop towns or Lake Como's villages or wine-producing areas and have lovely lunches at excellent restaurants, then we come home to a tasty dinner prepared by Katharine Elder with the wonderful produce and ingredients from the gardens and farms within a mile or two of Poggio! We have room for 2-3 couples May 4-10 and 3-4 couples May 11-17! Singles are very welcome, too, and ladies are welcome to grab a girlfriend and share a room.

A late afternoon walk through Val Curone, the regional park about 20 minutes from the villa, is such a treat, especially in October when the light is lower and the colors are turning. (These are from October 2024... yet another fabulous Wichita group!)

We said our goodbyes a few days ago to a wonderful group of women from Wichita (and Kansas City!). We haven't done a girls trip in several years and it was really, really nice. We visited Bergamo, Como, Milan, Varenna, Bellagio, Montevecchia, and we even did a long day up to St Moritz in Switzerland (for wonderful views and chocolates, not necessarily in that order!) then back down through the Bernina Pass, west through Valtellina for lunch and then a wine tasting at Rainoldi Wines. It was a long but VERY worthwhile day! We listened to Beneath a Scarlet Sky, by Mark Sullivan, as we traveled within a few miles of where the first part of the book takes place!

Our restaurants were wonderful, as usual, and we discovered a new one we'll return to with the 'reunion' groups that are making their plans for 2026! Some of our very best meals, though, were right here at the villa, prepared with local ingredients and a lot of love and skill by Katharine Elder of the restaurant at Elderslie Farm. :)

Our Valtellina day is a fun one... wine tasting at Rainoldi Wines, lunch on the terrace at Ristorante Fracia, quick stop at Castel Grumello, then Agriturismo Fiorida for gelato and local meats and cheeses to take back to the villa. On this trip in September of 2018, one of our guests headed on up the path from the viewing platform above the restaurant and didn't come right back so we went to find him and he had come across some harvesters, who donated some grapes to take home! Serendipity! :)

A 'taste' of our "Taste" trip! Bergamo day... meet Elena Marchesi, our magnificent guide, at the pasticceria that invented straciatella gelato (chocolate chip!) then tootle around and learn about the fascinating and long history of the city. Stop in our favorite food shop, Salumeria Mangili, to pick up casoncelli, then head for a leisurely lunch at a great restaurant. Take a walk in the regional park on the way back to the villa, then head back for a bit of relaxation or a game of bocce before a wonderful dinner prepared by our personal chef, Katharine Elder. Then upstairs to bed and sweet dreams!

One of the lovely groups that came to Poggio Verde last fall requested an even more foodie focus than usual, including hands-on cooking demos with Katharine Elder, the chef and owner of Elderslie Farm (our niece!). It was so much fun, we're doing another one, this time for ladies only, and as of this writing we still have room! 🙂...
