Yesterday in Orvieto, while guiding a family from Missouri, we unexpectedly found ourselves immersed in the beautiful celebration of Pentecost.
Because of the Eucharistic Miracle of Bolsena and the Holy Corporal preserved in the Orvieto Cathedral, this festivity has a very special meaning here. A canopy is built in front of the cathedral to represent the Cenacle, where Mary and the Apostles, after the Resurrection of Christ, received the Holy Spirit.
Since 1404, a dove—today a symbolic one for obvious reasons—is made to “fly” into the cenacle, accompanied by fireworks representing the tongues of fire of the Holy Spirit.
It was wonderful to witness not only the curiosity of visitors but also the entire local community gathered together, waiting for that powerful moment when the dove enters the cenacle.
To make everything even more beautiful, the celebration now includes a flower festival, with stunning images created from flower petals displayed in the main churches.
What started as an unplanned addition to my tour became a truly special experience—an authentic glimpse into living traditions, faith, and community.

No pictures here. I've just returned from a tour in Bomarzo with a small group of 8 year old children. Before we walked into the Sacred Wood, I sat with them on the lawn under the shade of an oak tree. I wanted to introduce them to the complex language of symbols in a lighter "fairy tale" style narration.
As they were sitting all around me, one was just standing and staring at me, then he said "you are so beautiful...". He was such a sweet and spontaneous little boy and his comment made my day😍

Every group teaches me something new 😄
Today I had visitors from Milan, and while we were exploring Palazzo Farnese, I overheard them wondering why so many figures in the frescoes were “biot”.
It took me a moment to realize—they meant naked! In Milanese dialect, biot = nudo=naked.
Not exactly intuitive if you’re from central Italy!
Another reminder that in Italy, even a simple question can turn into a small linguistic adventure 🇮🇹

An entrance always marks the beginning of a journey, or of many…
Our opening toward the future is protected by Janus.

In Roman mythology, he is the god of beginnings, transitions, and doorways (from *ianua*, meaning “door”). While he is most famously depicted as two-faced (with two heads), a lesser-known variant portrays him with four faces, each turned toward one of the cardinal directions. This symbolism represents his ability to govern space and time in their entirety.

According to myth, he welcomed Saturn after his expulsion from Olympus. In gratitude, Saturn granted him the power to see perfectly both the past and the future.

In his honor, the first month of the year is called *Januarius* (January), symbolizing the beginning of a new cycle.

To plan an unforgettable outing, it’s not only about where you go… but when ✨
Once a year, Viterbo transforms. Ancient medieval streets—usually grey and quiet—burst into color with a breathtaking flower festival 🌸
Every detail is designed from a single architect’s vision, brought to life by incredible floral installations across the city.
It only lasts three days… and draws thousands of people.
That’s exactly why I took my clients there before 7 a.m.—when the streets were empty, the light was soft, and the magic was all ours 🤍

Only a short post tonight to say that hiring a local guide doesn’t just take you to the best hidden views — it can also give you the chance to try some amazing local delicacies and specialties.
If you’re in Rome, especially after a long day walking around the sites, you might need a boost of energy, something that really "picks you up"!
Time for the best Tiramisù in town, where the queues move quickly and you only have to make two choices: the flavour (classic, strawberry, or pistachio) and the size (big or small).
Guess how I had mine yesterday … 😄

Like pilgrims in the Middle Ages, people still pass through Montefiascone today along the ancient Via Francigena—following footsteps worn into history over centuries. This town marked a meaningful milestone on the journey: just 100 km from Saint Peter’s tomb, a point of both relief and anticipation for those nearing the end of their pilgrimage.
In this photo, my shadow meets the silhouette of the monument dedicated to pilgrims at the top of the village. From this quiet terrace, the view opens wide over Lake Bolsena—a place to pause, reflect, and take in the same timeless landscape that countless travelers have admired before continuing on their path.

A person one day told me "Love's the death of peace of mind".
There is a place where I will always find myself reconnected and balanced. Where even a whirlwind of thoughts, feelings and perceptions find their natural order and space, where I feel alive, yet in peace.

Children never cease to amaze me.
Every time I visit the Sacro Bosco with them, I wonder how I’ll introduce such a complex language of symbols—the kind spoken through the sculptures of this extraordinary Renaissance park. But it never takes long before they surprise me, finding their own meanings, making connections in ways I hadn’t even considered.
Their instinct, their imagination… it’s something we often lose as adults, yet it’s exactly what we should rediscover to better understand the world around us—and to respect it.
At the end of the guided tour, I asked them to draw the sculptures that had impressed them the most. Some were worried their drawings didn’t look exactly like the real ones.
But I reminded them: that’s what makes their work special. Their drawings aren’t just copies—they are unique visions shaped by their eyes, their thoughts, and their hearts.
