Here are some details I’ve put together including prices, as there’s been such a response.
The nearest airports that fly directly from Edinburgh are Rome and Pisa and even Bologna. You can get the train or hire a car from all of these places and it’s just over two hour drive depending on time of day. Florence is nearer but has very few direct flights from Edinburgh and they tend to be pricey. There is a nearby airport in Perugia which is very convenient and has wonderfully cheap flights, but only to and from Stansted. We often come back via London. You would need a car as the village has only one bus a week!
The house has three bedrooms each with double beds, and two bathrooms and a sofa bed in the living room. The garden is large and well established and has a pool. It’s very much a family home rather than a rental property, so it’s full of books, kitchen equipment etc.. but it also means it has its own personality and doesn’t have the bland youth hostel feel that some of them do, so if it’s a home from home you’re looking for, then this is ideal. We have very good wi-fi and fans in each room, but there is no air-conditioning.
The minimum rental over the summer is one week, and the cost per week is £900 but there are no hidden extras. This includes all linens, final cleaning and all utilities including unlimited internet. We also provide someone to clean and maintain the pool twice a week and cut the grass, If you have any more questions just ask.
The nearby town of Castiglione del Lago is right on the shores of lake Trasimeno. It has several beaches and loads of restaurants with some of the best food and wine available. There is a sailing club and the chance to go out on the lake, and all the usual water sports, plus a bike path round the lake. The region is well served for visits to nearby hill towns and some of the bigger cities, Montepulciano, Cortona and Arezzo are all a short drive away, and Siena, Perugia and Orvieto all less than an hour away and all breathtaking. The region is dotted with wineries and there are more beautiful churches than you could ever possibly visit. There are lovely bars and cafes along the beach front and in the old town, though I would say the region isn’t full of nightclubs or loud music venues, so it wouldn’t be ideal for all teenagers, but mine absolutely loved it, as did their friends. Ed Sheeran has just bought a house in one of the neighbouring small villages and Colin Firth lives nearby and can sometimes be spotted at the local cafe or theatre!
