Sometimes Etna doesn’t need an explanation. 🌋

You just walk into a crater, look around… and suddenly realise how small you are.

Black lava, red volcanic earth, enormous slopes and Sicily stretching away in the distance. No buildings. No roads. Just a landscape created by eruption after eruption.

There are places on Etna where the best thing a guide can do is stop talking for a minute. 😉

These colors are not paint… it’s chemistry at work 😄

Around Etna’s craters, volcanic gases create bright mineral deposits:
yellow (sulfur), white (salts), green and blue (copper compounds).

It’s basically nature saying:
“Who needs Photoshop?”

Autour des cratères de l’Etna, les gaz volcaniques créent des dépôts colorés :
jaune (soufre), blanc (sels), vert et bleu (cuivre).

La nature fait mieux que Photoshop.

Some days start with a plan. Others start with: “OK… which way are we going today?” 😎🚙🌋

Two guides, one 4x4, plenty of coffee and another day somewhere on Mount Etna.

Before the craters, the trails and the stories we share with our guests, there are thousands of kilometres spent exploring this volcano, checking routes and discovering places worth coming back to.

We call it work. Most of the time. 😄

There’s another Etna beneath your feet. 🌋🔦

Lava caves are the hidden side of the volcano: tunnels and strange passages created when the surface of a lava flow cooled while molten rock continued to move underneath.

Today, we can walk inside some of them and literally enter the history of an eruption.

Dark, silent and surprisingly beautiful, sometimes exploring Etna means going underground.

Around 24 BC, the Latin poet Ovid traveled through Sicily with his friend Macro and later remembered seeing Mount Etna active during his youth.

In a passage from the Epistulae ex Ponto, he recalls the sky shining with Etna’s flames, a rare poetic testimony of volcanic activity that escaped several modern eruption catalogs.

A small but fascinating episode where Roman literature meets Sicilian volcanic history.

These vineyards grow on volcanic soil.

Lava, ash and time create incredibly rich ground…
which means better grapes… which means better w**e 😄

So yes, drinking Etna w**e is basically tasting a volcano.

Proof that a good Etna tour requires serious concentration at all times. 😎🌋

Well… almost.

Between craters, lava fields and long walks, there’s always time for a slightly ridiculous selfie.

Because years later, you may forget the altitude, the kilometres or the name of that crater… but you’ll probably remember the people you shared the adventure with.

That’s a pretty important part of travelling too.

A volcano makes much more sense when someone helps you read it. 🌋

Every lava flow, crater and fracture is a piece of Etna’s story. Sometimes we use old photographs, maps or simply the landscape in front of us to understand what happened here and why the mountain looks the way it does today.

Walking on Etna is beautiful. Understanding what you’re walking on makes it even better.

That’s what a local guide is really there for. 😉

When your Etna guide gets a little too excited… 😂🌋

We promise our guides know exactly what they’re doing.

Keeping them calm while they explain volcanoes, however, is another story.

Too much Etna? Too much coffee? Or simply what happens when you really love your job? We’ll let you decide. 😄

At least one thing is guaranteed: boring tours are not really our specialty.
