There’s something Matteo at Casa Pietraia will tell you straight away: great olive oil isn’t made at the mill — it’s made in the grove. 🫒
Perched on the ancient hills of Semifonte, in the heart of Chianti between Certaldo and Barberino Val d’Elsa, his family’s organic groves of Frantoio, Leccino, Moraiolo and Pendolino are tended with the kind of obsessive care that only true passion can sustain. No pesticides, no shortcuts — just a deep respect for the land and its rhythms.
Come harvest, the olives are hand-picked and rushed to the mill twice a day, pressed the very same day using a two-phase cold extraction method that locks in every nuance of flavour and aroma. The result? A vibrant, golden-green oil with hints of artichoke, fresh grass and almond.
From pruning to bottling, every step is organically certified. Every tin carries the story of this place.
Some things are worth doing slowly. And tasting carefully. 🌿
