L’esposizione est-ovest consente di ammirare, a levante, il punto in cui il sole sorge dal mare, dietro l’Appennino Toscano e, a ponente, il punto in cui tramonta sulla costa francese. La ristrutturazione conservativa ha mantenuto materiali e tonalità della pietra originaria dell'Ottocento, che è stata lasciata intatta e che contribuisce a mantenere quel sapore di casa di campagna

The House of Hyla is very sensitive to all aspects of respecting the environment and saving energy, but it is also attentive to its technological equipment, with the aim of satisfying our guests’ demands; these are the main characteristics:

Alcuni scatti fatti tra i carruggi del borgo antico

The village of Cipressa (240 metres above sea level) is small, but has a bar, 2 restaurants with pizzeria, a newsagent’s with tobacconist’s (also selling international newspapers and magazines), a hairdresser’s, a chemist’s, a well-stocked grocer’s, a five-a-side football pitch and a play park.

Cipressa is not far from more famous tourist destinations, 15 minutes from the sandy beaches of S. Lorenzo and S. Stefano al Mare and from the coastal cycle path that goes to Sanremo and Bordighera.. In the summer a minibus service connects the villages to the beaches, with frequent departures daily.

In S. Lorenzo, 5km from Cipressa, there are various shops and supermarkets, while Imperia (10 km, 40,000 inhabitants) is the nearest big town.

Il paese di Cipressa (240 mt sul livello del mare) pur essendo piccolo e raccolto ha un bar, 2 ristoranti con pizzeria, un’edicola con tabacchi (con vendita di giornali e riviste internazionali), un parrucchiere, una farmacia, un negozio fornitissimo di alimentari, un campo da calcetto ed un’area giochi per bambini.
Cipressa si trova a poca distanza da rinomate mete turistiche, a soli 15 minuti dalle sottostanti spiagge in sabbia di S. Lorenzo e S.Stefano al Mare e dalla pista ciclabile costiera che conduce a Sanremo e a Bordighera. Un pulmino, nel periodo estivo, collega il paese alle spiagge con frequenti corse giornaliere.
A San Lorenzo al Mare, 5km da Cipressa, sono presenti diversi negozi e supermercati. Imperia (che dista 10km) con i suoi 40.000 abitanti, offre tutte le opportunità di una città.

The House of Hyla ... we chose this name because shortly after we came to live here we noticed a beautiful example of a hyla meridionalis (tree frog) on the terrace. We saw this charming creature many times (once we even saw it sitting on the window sill of the bathroom!), but the following year there was no trace of it.

During the mating season (spring-summer) you can still hear the song of Hyla from the house: a loud repeated croak in the warm evenings and during the quiet nights. There are many tree frogs in the surrounding countryside: the cisterns used by the country people from the 16th century onwards to collect rainwater, and also the local water courses, are its ideal habitat.

This species of tree frog can be found only in some areas of Europe, and as far as Italy is concerned, only in Liguria. It is characterized by its bright green colour, by the absence of a dark stripe on its side (the stripe is very small and barely goes beyond its ear) and by the small adhesive pads on the tips of its toes, which make it look like a funny character out of a cartoon!

The species risks extinction, so if you should see Hyla again, don’t disturb it !

“La Casa di Hyla”… si chiama così perché appena ci siamo venuti ad abitare abbiamo scorto sul terrazzino un tenero esemplare di “Hyla meridionalis”, nome latino di una graziosissima raganella. Gli avvistamenti si sono ripetuti (una volta l’abbiamo vista che sbirciava appoggiata al davanzale della finestra del bagno!) ma l’anno successivo ne abbiamo perso le tracce.

Tuttora, durante il periodo degli accoppiamenti (primavera-estate) dalla casa si può sentire il canto di Hyla: un sonoro “cre-e-e” ripetuto nelle calde serate e nelle notti calme. Sono tante le raganelle che vivono nella campagna circostante: le cisterne usate sin dal XVI secolo dai contadini per la raccolta dell’acqua piovana, nonché i corsi d’acqua, ne costituiscono l’habitat ideale.

Questa specie di raganella si trova solo in alcune zone d’Europa e, per quanto riguarda l’Italia, esclusivamente in Liguria. E’ caratterizzata da un colore verde brillante, dall’assenza della banda scura laterale sui fianchi (tale striscia è di molto ridotta e supera di poco il timpano) e dai cuscinetti adesivi presenti sulla punta delle dita, che la fanno assomigliare al simpatico personaggio di un cartone animato!

La specie rischia l’estinzione, perciò se doveste avvistare nuovamente Hyla, non disturbatela!
