Summer is almost here. Finally ☀️
And yet… my favourite season has always been spring.
Every single year, I wait for it with the same emotion.
And after 30 springs in Italy, it still feels like magic every time.
I was born in Cuba, where warm air, deep blue skies and lush green nature are simply part of everyday life. You grow up taking beautiful days for granted when they surround you all year long.
Then life teaches you something important:
you truly learn to appreciate something only when you experience its absence.
After the golden reds and burnt browns of autumn, winter arrives… and every year the trees lose their leaves. My mother used to say they were “taking off their little dresses.”
And then suddenly, spring comes back.
Quietly at first…
A softer light.
Longer days.
Tiny green buds appearing again.
The scent of jasmine in the evening air.
And for me, every single time, it feels like a celebration.
Everything comes back to life.
The lake changes colour.
The villages wake up again.
People return outside.
Music, aperitivi, festivals, boats, laughter, wine under the stars…
In winter the sofa almost swallows you whole.
But in spring, life happens outside — and there is never enough time for everything you want to do.
And every year, no matter how many springs I’ve already lived through…
it still feels like the very first one 🤍
Lake Como in May is pure magic.
