As the weather turns cold, now is the time to warm our hearts and be kind. Happy Holidays!

Vin brule (mulled wine) is a staple in the Italian wintertime and a delicious way to warm your soul. If you can't quite get over to Italy right now, try it for yourself at home!!!

6 1/3 cups of red wine
3 cinnamon sticks
1 ¼ cups granulated sugar
10 cloves
1 pinch nutmeg
Zest of 2 oranges
Zest of 1 lemon
1 apple thinly sliced (with the skin on)

Combine all the ingredients together in a big pot. Mix and bring to a boil. Then simmer for 5 minutes. Remove fro flame, strain and serve hot.

Today is Labor Day here in Italy so I am taking my daughter/food critic to seek out some new restaurants. Today we decided on Foody Farm where the foods are selected from farms of the highest standards. Fun fact: Italians do not touch their food. At Foody Farm they even offer plastic gloves instead of the traditional way of wrapping your sandwich with a napkin. We loved it!

I love September and October! They are my favorite months. The mornings are cool and crisp, the afternoons are usually warm and sunny, and the sunsets always take my breath away. It's the perfect time to come visit Italy!

My favorite time of year is upon us! The Vendimia (harvest) is right about now and I have already visited some of my favorite wineries to see what to expect for upcoming vintages. This Sunday, you will catch me at the annual Festa del Uva (grape festival) in Imprunetta. Hope to see you there!
