Here are some curious facts about Brunelleschi's dome:
- It is the largest brick dome in the world, with an internal diameter of 45.5 meters (149.3 feet) and a height of 107.3 meters (352.0 feet).
-It was built between 1420 and 1436 by Filippo Brunelleschi
Brunelleschi invented a number of ingenious techniques to build the dome, including a double-shell design, a herringbone brick pattern, and a system of internal chains. These techniques allowed him to build the dome without using any scaffolding, which was a major feat of engineering for the time.
-The dome is decorated with a series of frescoes by Giorgio Vasari and Federico Zuccari, depicting the Last Judgment. The frescoes were painted between 1572 and 1579 and cover an area of 3,600 square meters (38,750 square feet).
