Visiting one of the oldest tanneries in Fes was such an incredible experience!
Chouara Tannery is located in Fes el Bali and has been dated back to the 9th century
☆
The most notable feature are the numerous stone vats filled with colored dyes. Animal hides are processed (2-3 days) and then soaked in the natural colored solution. Then, the hides dry under the Moroccan sun
☆
The hides are then made into bags, belts, shoes, jackets and more
The entire process uses manual labor, no machinery!

It is an incredible experience and we will go here on our Moroccan Adventure, APR 19-28, 2027!

Around 1000 years ago, nature created a masterpiece
Deadvlei in Namibia's Namib Desert was developed when the climate changed and shifting dunes blocked the Tsauchab River, leaving ancient camel thorn trees frozen in time

Today, we have the wonderful privilege of seeing it

Places like this are magnificent precisely because they are so fragile

The silence, the ancient trees, the golden dunes, none of it should be taken for granted

Lately, I have seen numerous posts from lodges where guests are encouraged to get very close to wildlife.
I am certainly not an expert in this field, but I do know that I am not interested in having a cappuccino with a giraffe or watching a movie outdoors as zebras roam by

I want to witness wildlife wild and moving freely
