Dear Friends,
We absolutely understand your concern about what is currently going on in Italy, regarding the infamous health threat.
We are all monitoring the development of the virus but honestly the situation here is much better than it looks from the outside.
The immediate reaction of our government with its radical approach (thorough health checks) might have exposed a number of apparently affected people larger than other countries, allowing global media (CNN and such…) to wrongfully distort reality by suggesting that much of the world was catching the new coronavirus from or because of our country!
Those precautionary measures are magnifying the extent of the problem and creating a distorted impression about its consequences on people.
Beside the fact that in the past we had other kinds of flu that had
similar or even bigger numbers of affected people and casualties, the vast majority of people affected by this one are fortunately already recovering.
Of course we cannot shrug it off and wise habits and healthy
behaviours greatly reduce risks.
Therefore, any decision from your side to cancel or postpone
your vacation here is completely understandable, although not really necessary.
So let’s stay in touch and see how things unfold, as it would be great if you were still able to enjoy your trip to Florence!

I managed not to f-ck up my vegetable garden this year.
Last year, I forgot to water it and fence it off from pheasants and other hungry pillagers.
I also planted it a million miles away so I used every excuse in the book not to tend to it.
This year I set it up on a small patch of grass where I normally go to throw up after big night out, that way I would make sure I could take care of it even while hungover.
Jokes aside, I was able to grow a couple simple edibles including leeks, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants (don’t call them aubergines) raspberries and strawberries right outside my doorstep.
So far so good. What’s special about these ingredients is the difference they can make in the flavor of even the most basic dishes. It almost makes salad and omelettes exciting. No easy feat.
