Easter, is the second most important Italian holiday after Christmas. This holiday covers a long weekend, with the additional observance of Pasquetta (Little Easter, also called Easter Monday). From north to south, you will encounter a variety of religious processions, parades, festivals, and special events. It is a time of deep religious significance, heartfelt traditions, and incredible food.
Good Friday is the day of Via Crucis: the streets light up with torches and are crossed by processions that retrace the process, the ordeal, and the death of Jesus.
At midnight on Saturday, the bells announce the Resurrection. Sunday is the most important day, as Lent, the long period of fasting, is over. Colourful eggs, dove-shaped cakes, and chocolate eggs are distributed.
