We have found a winner here.

Brilliant wines, massive personality like Gianluca. With 9 hectares he is making under 20,000 bottles and has room the grow, but the joy is coming from the fact the vines are coming from 25 to 60 year old vines on clay and calcareous soil. He follows low intervention and natural vineyard management. The croatina we tried had super acidity (5,6g/l) with 30 months in cement, fresh and sumptuous. The Pinot Grigio was balanced with aromas and unexpected depth and the Macerated blend is a tremendous effort in complexity and drinkability.
Some refermented wines are also made in the ancestral method under his WAI labels using pinot nero. There are Riesling ,Cortese, Moscato and Barbera planted too.

Giovanna Morganti, the owner Podere Le Boncie makes two wines: Le Trame and Il Cinque – Sangiovese expectedly plays the major part but the other traditional varieties in Chianti are also present. She uses high density planting and follows the biodynamic method. Spontaneous Fermentation traditional open-topped wooden tine confirms this a traditional and naturally made wine..

“Il Cinque” the wine we have shown here comes from Castelnuovo Berardenga which is just south of the Chianti Classico classification. A small estate with just over 1 hectare on limestone. The name comes from the fact she initially used 5 varieties Sangiovese, Mammalo, Colorino, Fogliatonda and Ciliegiolo. More recently this is not case and is made from just Sangiovese and Canaiolo. Cinque is steel fermented with barrel ageing in a range of capacities. All Giovanna’s wines are without filtration or chemical additions. The winery has become extremely well thought of in the natural wine world and both the Cinque and Trame are really worth hunting down.

Azienda Agricola Oasi degli Angeli. Marche.

Cult Wine from sleepy Marche.

Last time we were on the Marche stand at Vinitaly all we ever heard is “No one even knows where we are!“ while tough to sell in the lower price echelons it means there are still so many great wineries to discover. Oasi degli Angeli Kurni is very well known in the wine trade but have you heard of this wine? Pure Montepulciano doesn't come any better and hits all the notes of Abruzzo's famed Valentini at about a 30 - 40% discount. Think 100 USD more or less. They make a small amount of a pure Grenache called Kupra. With such tiny production you will be lucky to find it. Critics and sommeliers all love it and so do we. Ages beautifully but sweet refined tannins make it approachable in its youth too.

Lambrusco dell’Emilia.

Two brilliant examples of this Red Frizzante Wine.

Wine People never took Chianti seriously back in the day… now look where we are… same thing we feel with Lambrusco.

Stefano Pescamona works real Magic here! Wild genius at Podere Magia.

Cinquecampi to the left is more restrained and one could say a more typical example.

11% and 12 alcohol, what a refreshing change. Chill it and actually Lambrusco can work great with seafood.
