Mount Etna this morning. 🌋

High above Sicily, at around 3,300 metres above sea level, the summit craters are once again showing the restless character of this extraordinary volcano.

Etna can change from one day to the next.
Sometimes the changes are subtle. Sometimes they are impossible to miss.

This is how Mount Etna looks today, August 15, 2026.

At Sicily Active, we follow Etna closely because this volcano is not just part of the landscape we work in — it is one of the experiences that makes Sicily so unique.

We’ll keep watching and sharing what happens next.

🌋 MOUNT ETNA IS ACTIVE AGAIN — AND THIS TIME, THE SCALE IS SOMETHING ELSE.

Mount Etna never stops surprising us.

But there are moments when surprise turns into something more: awe.

In recent days, Europe's most active volcano has once again captured attention with intense volcanic activity, including explosive activity at the summit craters and lava flows in the Valle del Leone and Valle del Bove.

The current phase is part of a series of eruptive episodes that have continued to show how dynamic Mount Etna can be. On July 30, the INGV recorded new effusive activity in the upper Valle del Leone, while later observations documented lava flows together with strong explosive activity at the summit craters.

And this is what makes Etna so extraordinary.
A photograph can show you the lava.
A video can show you the fire.

But seeing an active volcano in front of you is something completely different.

The scale, the sound, the landscape and the feeling of watching a living volcano are difficult to capture through a screen.

At Sicily Active, Mount Etna is not simply a destination.

It is one of the places we know, follow and experience every day through our excursions.

We continue to follow the volcano and the information released by volcanologists so that visitors can discover Mount Etna with a deeper understanding of this extraordinary landscape.

🌋 Etna always surprises us.

Sometimes with fire.
Sometimes with silence.

And sometimes with a spectacle that is almost impossible to describe.

🌋 BREAKING: Mount Etna Just Put on a Show 7/08/2026

Incredible drone footage captured by INGV (Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia) shows the exact moment a new effusive vent opened within Valle del Bove — one of Etna's most dramatic and remote craters.

This is Etna doing what it does best: reminding us why it's Europe's most active volcano, and one of the most fascinating natural wonders on the planet.

Our trekking guides watch these developments closely, ensuring every excursion is both thrilling and safe. Want to witness Etna's raw power up close (from a safe distance, of course)?

Most people visit Mount Etna on foot. The lava fields, the craters, the volcanic geology — all of it experienced at walking pace, covering a few kilometres on an organised trek. Riding the same terrain by electric mountain bike is a different proposition: 40 kilometres of off-road volcanic trails, 670 metres of elevation gain, pine forests and open lava desert, and a lava cave visit in the middle. This is what the north side of Etna looks like from two wheels.
