🌋**Mount Etna Update August 12,2026!

Mount Etna is now in its fifth day of explosive activity, and the mountain continues to put on an extraordinary and sometimes chaotic show. A new vent, or *bocca*, has opened, and multiple vents are producing impressive plumes of smoke and ash.

The current activity includes vents at roughly 2,750 and 2,360 meters above sea level, with lava flowing into remote valleys high on the mountain far from inhabited areas.

Certified Etna guides are taking visitors to designated safe viewing areas so people can experience this incredible natural phenomenon responsibly. Unfortunately, not everyone is following the rules. A 53-year-old man from Rome was reportedly rescued after entering a prohibited area on Etna. This is exactly why restrictions exist. Etna is spectacular, but it is still an active volcano.

✈️ **And then there is the airport situation.

Volcanic ash has created major disruptions at Catania Airport, with flights cancelled, delayed, or diverted to other Sicilian airports, including Palermo. The ash cloud has even affected flights as far away as Malta.

And the timing couldn't be worse.

This is the week leading into **Ferragosto**, one of the busiest travel periods of the year in Italy, when tens of thousands of people are moving around Sicily. Travelers are understandably frustrated, and we have heard reports of some taxi and car companies taking advantage of the situation, along with complaints about confusing or insufficient communication.

There is a very important distinction here: Etna itself is not threatening the towns and communities below. The immediate travel problem is the volcanic ash and its impact on aviation.

But the way this situation has been communicated and managed particularly at Catania Airport — deserves some serious discussion.

**And we will be talking about it on Sunday's show.**

🌋 Etna is doing what Etna does.
✈️ Sicily's travelers deserve clear information.
❤️ And visitors should never put themselves at risk trying to get closer to the spectacle.
Do not cancel your travel to Sicily... Mamma Etna will eventually calm down .

I will keep you updated!

🌋 MOUNT ETNA UPDATE — AUGUST 11, 2026 🌋

Mamma Etna is putting on another spectacular show!

A new eruptive vent has opened on Mount Etna, sending lava flowing down into the valley. At the same time, Etna’s summit activity has produced ash clouds that can affect air traffic around Catania.

The most important thing to know: there is currently NO reported threat to populated areas. The active lava is flowing in an uninhabited area of the volcano, and authorities and volcanologists are closely monitoring the situation.

✈️ What about Catania Airport?
Volcanic ash can be dangerous for aircraft, so airport operations are adjusted according to the location and concentration of the ash cloud. This can mean temporary restrictions, delays, or cancellations. The situation is evaluated continuously, so if you are flying, check directly with your airline and Catania Airport for the latest information. Recent activity has already caused temporary disruption to arrivals.

🌋 Should you cancel your trip to Sicily?
No!!! Don’t cancel your trip simply because you see dramatic images of Etna erupting. This is an active volcano, and eruptions and lava flows are part of Etna’s long history. The important distinction is between activity on the mountain and danger to the towns and communities below.

Etna is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and the highest active volcano in Europe, and it is monitored continuously by Italy’s volcanological authorities.

So, if you're coming to Sicily: keep your plans, keep an eye on your flight, and stay informed. ✈️

Mamma Etna may be putting on a fiery performance, but Sicily is still here and welcoming visitors. ❤️🌋

Mount Etna put on a brilliant natural show on August 7 and 8, 2026, with intense lava fountains and ash plumes from the Voragine crater.

Note: Some of these pictures were taken by LICENCED guides who knows where to go and not to go!

There is ZERO danger to local towns or residents, though light ash dust fell nearby and arrivals at Catania Airport faced temporary pauses.

Pain in the butt but safety first!

Glowing molten rock shot high into the night sky from the summit.

New Vents: fresh, quiet lava flows safely inside uninhabited high zones like Valle del Leone.

Local Life: Villages down the slopes, like where we live ... remain completely calm and safe, used to our mountain's majestic rhythm.

What to Expect?
Stunning Views: The glowing red peaks made for incredible evening photos across eastern Sicily.

Travel Notes: Flight arrivals at Catania Airport experienced brief holds due to wind-carried ash, but everyday life below the mountain went on as usual.

Relax...it is part of life in Sicily living under a volcano.

Happy Saturday! Hope to see you on the live tomorrow. Love , Eszter

San Vito lo Capo has one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. The crystal clear water is divine and pictures just don't do it justice.

Some tips:
- In the summer don't go on a weekend
-Get there early if you want bed and umbrella near the water
-Walk around town and explore the side streets
- Enter the sanctuary/church even just for a peak...it's worth it!
-Try the cous cous especially in September for the cous cous festival
-In the evening some beach clubs will have music
- Check out our June 2027 tour as it is one of our stops!
