We ventured into P**a Centro Storico this morning to pick up some ingredients for dinner...freshly-caught fish, artisanal pasta, and traditional biscotti. This charming town blends Sardinian architecture, lively piazzas, cafés, and restaurants in a compact, walkable setting. The tourist season hasn't quite kicked off yet, but you can feel in the air that it's very soon!

Our flight from Pisa to Cagliari was at the crack of dawn, landing by 7 a.m. With hours to kill before we could check into our villa, we headed to the historic center, just 10 minutes from the airport.

We wandered through charming streets, took in sweeping views of the town and the sparkling sea, and were greeted by stunning lavender jacaranda trees in full bloom.

Our first full day in Sardegna did not disappoint. Crystal-clear water, unspoiled nature, and breathtaking views. Best of all, we have all three of our sons and dear friends here with us.

The day ended with a spectacular Blue Moon, which was actually orange. Fun fact: a Blue Moon isn’t blue at all. It’s just the name given to a rare extra full moon. This one looked orange because, low on the horizon, its light traveled through more of Earth’s atmosphere, scattering blue light and leaving the warmer orange tones we see. Who knew!

Getting here was super easy too. Sardegna is only a one-hour flight from Pisa, so we made it from Lucca to the island in under two hours, door to door.

Last week, we strolled through .lucca. Most of the big spring blooms were finished, but we were still impressed by the beauty of the gardens with its towering historic trees, including one of Lucca's oldest trees, a Cedar of Lebanon which was introduced to Europe in 1683 and planted in this location in 1822!
While you can see much of the gardens from above on the walls, walking through allows you to read the plaques which include the origin details.

Last night we enjoyed a beautiful evening of classical music at the deconsecrated church of San Romano, just beyond our garden wall. The filled the stunning space with the music of Mascagni, Schumann, and Mozart.

The strawberries in Italy right now are on another level. Deep red all the way through, sweet, fragrant, and at the perfect ripeness when you buy them. 🍓

I wish there was smell-o-vision! The jasmine over the door into our garden is so sweetly fragrant and wafts into our loggia and windows this time of year!

You can feel summer getting closer. Chilled Prosecco, salty air, afternoons overlooking the sea, and nowhere else we need to be.
