I never knew you could fall in love with the same place over and over again.

And yet, after 37 years of exploring Italy, I still do.

It's the places, the people, the food, the traditions, and those moments when you stumble upon something wonderful you never would have found if you'd stuck to the original plan.

My grandmother was Italian, I married an Italian, and today I split my time between the U.S. and our home in Lucca, Tuscany.

Italy has been part of my life for decades, and somehow, there's always something new to discover.

And that's what I want to share with my clients.

I want you to experience the Italy you've been dreaming about, but also to discover the places, people, and experiences you might never have found on your own.

Have you looked at your Italy itinerary and thought, “How are we going to fit all of that in?”.

That's usually when I start looking at how much time is being spent moving from one place to another.

Because the cost of changing hotels isn't just the transportation.

It's the packing.
The checking out.
Getting to the station or picking up the car.
The journey.
Finding your next hotel.
Checking in.
Getting settled.

And suddenly, a day that looked perfectly manageable on paper has become a travel day.

âś… That's why I recommend at least three nights in each home base whenever the itinerary allows for it.

Not because there's a rule that says you have to travel slowly.
Because your time in Italy is valuable.

And I'd rather see you spend that time having a long lunch, wandering a neighborhood, discovering a little shop, or sitting at a café than watching Italy go by through a train window.

Your itinerary should give you time to experience Italy—not just move through it.

More isn’t always better when it comes to Italy.

It can be tempting to look at a map and think, “While we’re there, we might as well see…”

But every time you add another destination, another hotel, another tour, another transfer, you’re also taking time away from something else.

And sometimes that something is the best part of the trip.

The long lunch you didn’t rush through.

The little town you had time to wander.

The afternoon you spent talking with a local artisan.

The glass of w**e you enjoyed because there was nowhere else you needed to be.

That’s why I believe a well-designed Italy trip isn’t about how much you can fit in.

It’s about making space for the things you’ll actually remember.

Italy has so much to see that it’s very easy to try to fit too much into one trip.

And one of the first things I think about when I’m planning an Italy trip is how to make sure you actually have time to enjoy the places you’ve chosen.

Because the best trips aren’t always the ones with the most destinations, hotels, tours and activities.

They’re the ones where you have enough time to actually experience where you are.

A long lunch.

A beautiful drive.

An afternoon with a local artisan.

Time to linger over a vineyard visit.

A small town you didn’t expect to love.

A hotel you’re genuinely excited to come back to.

Or simply an afternoon with nowhere you have to be.

That’s why I don’t start by asking, “How much can we fit in?”

I start by asking what matters to you.

And then I build the trip around that.

One of the biggest mistakes I see when people plan an Italy trip?

Underestimating the cost of moving.

Not the financial cost.

The time cost.

Every time you change locations, there’s packing.

Checking out.

Getting to the station or picking up the car.

Traveling.

Finding your way to the next hotel.

Checking in.

Getting settled.

Even when everything goes smoothly, you’ve spent a good part of your day getting from here to there.

And if you’re only in Italy for 10 nights, those travel days add up quickly.

That’s why I recommend at least three nights in each home base.

Not because I think you need to travel slowly.

But because I want you to have enough time to be where you are.

To have the long lunch.

To wander without a plan.

To discover the little shop.

To sit at the café.

To have the experience you didn’t know you were going to have.

Don’t spend your Italy trip moving through Italy.

Spend it experiencing Italy. 🇮🇹

Maybe it’s Renaissance art.

Maybe it’s a cooking class with a local family.

Maybe it’s none of those things.

That’s the beauty of Italy. There is an Italy for you.
