Puglia has a warmth and atmosphere which is best enjoyed simply sitting in a shady piazza, sipping a cool, refreshing drink. After seeing some of the amazing sights the region has to offer, give yourself time to wander along a scenic coastal path, take a dip in a turquoise lagoon and enjoy the life and chatter around you. In picturesque Polignano a Mare, visit the statue of Domenico Modugno, then sit overlooking the sea and listen to his famous song - Nel Blu, Dipinto di Blu, also known as Volare, and life will feel good.

Puglia's local cuisine is delicious, and given its long coastline and fishing traditions consists largely of a wide range of freshly caught seafood. The local pasta, 'orecchiette con cime di rapa', small ear-shaped pasta shells served with a sauce made of turnip tops, garlic and oil is typical of the area, as is a pasta dish served with a 'barese' sauce, a combination of slow-cooked beef, lamb and pork, with tomatoes, seasoned with pecorino cheese. The famous 'pasticciotti leccesi', sweet oval pastries with numerous fillings should not be missed. The most famous is cherry and vanilla custard, but we recommend trying the pistachio cream pie as well!
The region is famous for its red wines, with the local 'negroamaro' grape producing a wonderful powerful, earthy wine. However, the 'primitivo' is probably Puglia's most famous grape and is perfect for producing the rich, high-alcohol, full-bodied wines with rich, fruity aromas and excellent aging potential.
