Ciao bello!

This could very well be the place that in a way launched my travel career. I remember Vernazza in Cinque Terre being such a magical town 16 years ago and I'm pleased to tell you that it has retained its delightful charm.

Cinque Terre is a region of five hillside villages nestled in the rugged coastline on the Italian Riviera, including Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore.

The five colorful villages are connected by steep and challenging hiking trails through vineyards and cliffs on the famous Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Trail). We have hiked between most of the towns, where a Cinque Terre permit is required for most trails along with study hiking shoes and lots of water!

Italy continues to be one of my personal favorite destinations to visit and also one of the top destinations I have booked for the last eight years. I've been fortunate to visit Italy close to a dozen times and have certainly learned some tips and tricks for making the most of your trip to this beautiful country, so when you're ready to go, I'm here to assist!

Travel by Meli recently celebrated our 8 year anniversary! I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for trusting me with your world travels these past 8 years and for your many referrals. ❤️ I'm so fortunate to help all of you do something that I'm so passionate about!

I'm often asked - "what is your favorite place you've ever been?" Well - I do have some favorites, but it's a really challenging question as there are so many extraordinary places to explore, and each holds its own charm and mystery.

After visiting 7 continents and almost 70 countries, I'm including some of my favorite adventures here. I've found awe and beauty in some unexpected places, and unexpected moments in popular destinations, too. Travel enriches your heart and your mind, and I hope I inspire you to keep exploring and making lifelong memories!

ANTARCTICA!!

Thank you to Lindblad National Geographic for an absolutely extraordinary experience on board the Resolution!

This 2700 nautical mile adventure of a life time through remote and pristine landscapes to the end of earth was full of awe and breath taking moments.

What makes Lindblad so exceptional?

Elephant Island wasn't on our itinerary but the weather was favorable and when you're on an expedition ship, guess what? They can change the itinerary on the fly!

Elephant island is a remote island on the South Shetland Islands and famous as the location where Sir Ernest Shackleton's ship the Endurance sank in 1915. This was a very exciting itinerary addition since on board our ship is guest lecturer Mensun Bound, the maritime archaeologist and reputed "Indiana Jones of the Deep", who led the expedition team in March 2022 that found The Endurance over 10,000 feet below the sea! He and his wife, Joanna, also a maritime archaeologist, have been conducting underwater exploration adventures around the world for over 30 years, and we were fortunate to have them both on board.

We also have acclaimed National Geographic professional photographer Chris Rainier on board, providing lectures as well as one on one guidance and tips for capturing the beauty of this magnificent continent. Chris is like a real life "Walter Mitty" who has been to all corners of the world and taken some of the most spectacular photographs for National Geographic over his career.

I was happy to get a photo of these icons together as we pulled into beautiful Elephant Island, just before we explored around the island by zodiac spotting what was the first of many penguin and sea lion sightings on this trip.

I have to say I've been awe struck at the incredible guest speakers on board Lindblad National Geographic, not just for their knowledge and passion in their fields, but also for how down to earth and approachable they have all been, making for such a memorable journey.

Today was absolutely EPIC!

We woke up to ice floes sparkling in the water all around us. There is something so magical seeing these free flow pieces of ice glistening all across the sea.

We journeyed on zodiacs, cutting through the floes, to check out two nearby glaciers and some waterfalls. We were so close to one of the glaciers as it started calving right before us - words can't even describe how exhilarating this was to witness in person!

There are no other ships around - it is amazing exploring in such an unspoilt area of the Chilean fjords!

We have had Patagonia all to ourselves!!

Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic is one of the few operators permitted to navigate the uncharted fjords and protected wildlife reserves in Patagonia - we haven't seen another ship other than a small fishing one since we departed!

Lindblad naturalists join us on on our zodiac excursions, pointing out plants, nature, and ecosystems, and their professional photographers also join to provide tips on how to best capture it all. When we return back to the ship there are always cookies and hot toddies waiting ☕️

I have the wonderful privilege of sailing with the world's unrivaled leader in expedition exploration to Patagonia and Antarctica these next two weeks, on board Lindblad Expeditions National Geographic's 'Resolution'! I've only started my journey and it has been an amazing two days.

The Resolution only holds 128 passengers and is designed specifically for polar navigation. It is one of only a few ice-class "Polar Code PC5" vessels in the world, which means it is designed to navigate polar passages year-round and safely explore unchartered waters - going where most ships can't go.

The resumes of the many incredible guest lecturers, scientists, naturalists and professional photographers on board is nothing short of extraordinary. One of our remarkable guest lecturers on board is Menson Bound, known as the "Indiana Jones of the deep"! He excavated one of the oldest known shipwrecks, carried out the deepest shipwreck excavation there has ever been, and his artifacts are showcased in a dozen museums globally!

The Resolution is a very new ship built not only for exploration but for comfort too. It has a powerful wave-slicing action which provides an extremely smooth ride, even in adverse conditions and also reduces spray on the deck for superior observation. The cabins are spacious, and there are two jacuzzis , a spa, a sauna, a fitness center - and most uniquely - two glass "igloos" on board for a unique and immersive overnight experience.

Our journey began with a trek through the spectacular Torres del Peine National Park in Patagonia, where we saw some wild guanacos (a close relative to the llama)and condors. Then today we did our first zodiac landing to visit the Bernal Glacier, the first of many landings to come!

Who knew this once shy little girl would one day travel to all 7 continents?! I hope you are inspired to explore this part of the world one day too as I share my journey the next few weeks. And of course, if Antarctica is on your list, I'd love to assist you with planning this trip of a lifetime!

Colorful lanterns adorn the streets of HoiAn making for a charming stay in this ancient city that provides a glimpse into historic Vietnam.

Having an amazing local guide truly makes the experience, and we enjoyed biking through the many villages and learning how many things are still made by hand like pottery and straw mats, and how fishing is done using large nets set at night and raised by strong elderly fishermen early in the mornings by a primitive foot crank.

One of my favorite ways get immersed in a culture is by doing a cooking class. We started with a stroll in the morning markets, learned about the greens like morning glory and various spices used in traditional dishes and then tried our hand at making some of the local Vietnamese cuisine.

Of course, no trip to this ancient city is complete without the touristy boat ride on the river and releasing some lanterns for good luck🏮
