Our Family Retreat in the Dolomites was never designed as a collection of activities. It was created as a space where families reconnect with each other and with nature.

Days unfold through mountain hikes, crystal-clear waterfalls, alpine lakes, wildlife encounters, walks with alpacas, wild berry picking, e-bike adventures, family Chef’s Battles with secret challenges, evenings around the fire and meaningful conversations under the stars.

One of the questions we ask every family before suggesting a journey is surprisingly simple:

“How old are your children?”

Because childhood changes so quickly.
A destination that feels magical at five may feel too quiet at ten. A journey that inspires a teenager might completely overwhelm a younger child.

At FAMILY RETREATS🇮🇹ITALY WITH KIDS we believe every stage of childhood deserves a different kind of adventure. Over the next few days, we’ll be sharing our favourite journeys for different ages and why choosing the right experience at the right moment can shape the memories children carry with them for years.

Our groups are intentionally small, every family receives a highly personalised experience.
If children of different ages are travelling together, we naturally adapt each activity to meet them where they are. For one child, that may mean an extra challenge. For another, a little more wonder, imagination and play.

The experience remains shared, while every child feels seen. That said, some of our signature group journeys are naturally best suited to certain age groups.

This first collection is designed especially for children aged 3–7, when imagination leads every adventure.

In the coming posts, we’ll share our favourite journeys for older children and teenagers.

For private journeys, every itinerary is created individually around your family, your children’s ages, interests and pace.

We hope to welcome your family to Italy soon, and create a journey your children will still be talking about years from now.

Filippa, 9 | The Netherlands | Summer in the Dolomites

Filippa joined us together with her mum and sister from the Netherlands.

Like many sisters, they were wonderfully competitive, always trying to be the first to reach the next viewpoint or complete the next challenge.

Their mum works in academic education, so creating an experience that truly impressed the whole family meant a great deal to us.

What Filippa remembers most isn’t a particular activity.
By the end of the week she was confidently hiking alpine trails, laughing with new friends and already asking when she could come back.

To this day, her mum still tells us how often they talk about that week together.

Alex, 13 | USA | Winter in the Dolomites

Teenagers are probably our toughest guests. Especially at thirteen.

Alex travelled from the USA with his mum to celebrate New Year’s in the Dolomites.

We weren’t trying to convince him to believe in magic.
Instead, the mountains did it for us.
The perfect balance between adventure and freedom made all the difference.

Snowboarding whenever possible, sledging again and again, and discovering wood carving with a local craftsman became the moments he still talks about today.

Sometimes teenagers don’t need entertainment.
They simply need something real.

La Maddalena Archipelago lies just off the north coast of Sardinia, a constellation of seven main islands and dozens of smaller ones, many of them completely untouched. Only a few are inhabited.
The rest remain wild, protected, and accessible mostly by sea.

The archipelago is part of a protected national park,
home to some of the most unique beaches in the Mediterranean, including the famous pink sands of Spiaggia Rosa on Budelli island.

The best way to experience La Maddalena is, without question, by boat, moving freely between islands,
stopping where it feels right.
