HOUSE IN SARDINIA — HOW A STONE BECAME A PLASTER
On Sardinia's Costa Smeralda, where architecture is expected to respect the character of the surrounding landscape, local stone has traditionally shaped the identity of buildings.
But for House in Sardinia, MORQ Architects envisioned something different.
The character of Orosei stone. The freedom of a seamless surface.
What began as an architectural request became a challenge for our material research.
Matching the colour was only the beginning.
We set out to capture the deeper character of Orosei stone: its texture, its irregularities, even the roughness of its surface. A bespoke plaster developed specifically for the project, incorporating 20% locally sourced resources.
The result is not simply a surface inspired by stone. It is an architectural finish conceived to preserve its visual and tactile character while allowing an entirely different kind of continuity.
We believe architecture should not be limited by the materials that already exist. Sometimes, the right material has to be developed.
