The University Observatory on Tourism – OUT, University of Naples Federico II, is pleased to announce the Call for Abstracts for the international conference:
TOURISM FUTURES
Sustainability, Artificial Intelligence and Immersive Technologies in the Transformation of the Tourist Experience
Naples | 9 December 2026
The conference will open the 8th edition of ScOUT – School of Methodology and Socio-Cultural and Territorial Research on Tourism and will explore how advanced technologies are reshaping tourism experiences, representations of places and destination governance. Artificial intelligence, robotics, digital platforms, big data and immersive technologies are opening new opportunities while also raising important social, cultural, economic, ethical and territorial questions.
The conference welcomes theoretical, methodological and empirical contributions, case studies, comparative analyses and applied experiences from a wide range of disciplinary perspectives.
Key themes include:
• sustainability of territories and seas, destination governance and regenerative tourism;
• artificial intelligence, generative AI, LLMs, recommendation algorithms, data and automation;
• accessibility, inclusion and social justice in tourism;
• digital and immersive technologies in the transformation of tourist experiences.
Abstract submission
300–500 words, in Italian or English
Deadline: 21 September 2026

Notification of acceptance: by 12 October 2026
Presentations: 10 minutes, onsite or online.
The Call is promoted in collaboration with the scientific journal Fuori Luogo. Contributions considered particularly valuable by the Scientific Committee will be selected for publication in a special issue dedicated to the conference themes.
The programme will include a plenary session, an international keynote and thematic panels, with Italian and English as working languages.
