This is the so-called Farnese cup, a gem of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, dating between the 2nd and 1st centuries BC.
This exquisite object was probably made in Alexandria, Egypt, and over the centuries travelled across the ancient Mediterranean, passing from one sovereign to another until it finally arrived in Naples in the 18th century as part of the maternal inheritance of Charles of Bourbon.
The value of museums also lies in the history of their collections, which often reveal much about power dynamics, political history, and more.
Come with us and letβs unveil together ancient history.
