ℹ️ I-DEST Tips for Destination Management Organisations – 1

📅 In many destinations, one recurring challenge is that everyone plans and promotes their own events in separate systems. As a result, one weekend may become overcrowded with programmes, while other dates remain almost completely empty.

The I-DEST Destination Event Manager is designed to make this process simpler and more coordinated.

Service providers and event organisers connected to the system can upload their own events directly. These events are added to the shared destination event calendar and can appear on the destination’s own website, in the I-DEST event calendar, or on both platforms.

And the event only needs to be uploaded once. I-DEST also provides a dedicated RSS feed, allowing the calendar content to be automatically displayed on other websites, service provider pages or additional communication platforms.

🌍 There is no need to translate the same event over and over again for international visitors either. Event content can be displayed in up to 21 languages, depending on the destination’s needs. With the built-in AI-powered translation tool, users can decide whether they want to create tailored content for each language or use the AI-generated translation.

However, the shared event calendar is much more than a communication tool.

Both DMO staff and participating service providers can see the events that are already planned. When selecting a date for a new event, they can immediately check what else is happening in the destination on the same day.

This can help avoid situations where too many events compete for the same audience at the same time, while also contributing to a more balanced distribution of programmes throughout the destination’s calendar.

Don’t plan in separate calendars. Build a shared destination event calendar that all relevant stakeholders can see, contribute to and use as a common source for multiple communication channels.

🌱 Should tourism businesses stop talking about sustainability because of the new EU rules? We have heard this concern from several providers.

A guesthouse can still explain that it uses water-saving fixtures. A restaurant can still name the dishes made with ingredients from local producers. What matters is that each claim is specific and does not suggest more than the business can substantiate.

A new milestone for I-DEST was presented today in Miskolc as part of the EPIC project.

The new VisitMiskolc development demonstrates how the I-DEST model can support a destination beyond the international I-DEST.com portal. Miskolc uses the platform’s configurable destination management functions while operating its own branded website and a fully separate local database.

This approach gives MIDMAR, Miskolc’s destination management organisation, full control over its content, administration and local integrations. At the same time, tourism providers can choose to participate in I-DEST programmes and benefit from international performance benchmarking.

The development was presented by Júlia Nagy, Managing Director of Innotime Hungary.

VisitMiskolc is the first independent destination portal to use the complete I-DEST framework, providing a model that can be adapted to the different structures and priorities of DMOs in other countries.
