It’s the drive back. The last curve of road. A light on in the window, waiting.

You spent the afternoon somewhere old and beautiful — a hilltop village with stone streets, a long dinner you didn’t want to end, a bottle you’re still thinking about.

Now the vineyards have gone quiet. So have you.

Home for the week. For tonight, just home.

The Nebbiolo is doing the quiet part.

The bunches are maturing — green will go to violet, sugar is building, tannins settling in. There’s nothing to do now but wait. In about 8 weeks the tractors will be out at dawn and the whole valley will smell like fermentation.

Until then, the evenings belong to Nascetta: the Langhe’s own white grape, nearly lost a few decades ago and kept alive by a handful of growers here.

Cold, a little citrus and hay to it, best drunk looking at the hills that made it.

This is an amazing season that is often overlooked — the waiting one. The vines work, we watch, and by the time the harvest comes our guests are already here for it.

The hardest decision of your day.

Barolo, 2 km. La Morra, 3. Novello, 3. Verduno, 9. Alba, 16 — and, come autumn, the white truffle market waiting at the end of that last one.

This is the crossroads a few minutes from our door.

Whichever way you turn, there’s a family-run cellar at the end of it, a table with tajarin on it, and a view that makes you pull over.

Our guests usually start with a plan. By day two, they just drive.

We keep two cozy apartments here among the vineyards, with the Alps on the horizon — and we’re always happy to tell you which way to turn first.
