La bandiera del Safari...

This is the Jolly Roger of H.M Submarine "Safari" (1942-1943), currently being conserved and restored by Heritage Malta's Textile Conservation Laboratory.

Safari was one of a number of submarines based upon or operated from Malta during the Siege. It was their custom to fly the Jolly Roger on return from patrol to signify their successes on the enemy coast.

The flag records the sinking by torpedo of 40 ships, many of them carrying supplies for Rommel in North Africa. Safari covered the June and August convoys and recorded on the flag are her participations in Operation "Torch".
