Today I’ll take you to the “Castriciani” fort, the most romantic spot in the historic centre of Milazzo!
The town was born at the feet of the fortified citadel which includes the remains of the Arabic-Normand -Swebian-Aragonese castle, the old Cathedral and the former Benedectine Monastery.
You should visit the citadel as you would do by opening a matrioska doll: starting from the Spanish fortifications that included the medieval village, you’ll reach the aragonese fortress which has incorporated the Normand -Swebian castle. As soon you’ll be in the heart of the building you will recognize the first Arabic-Normand tower!
But...this isn’t over! The citadel was built over the ruins of the ancient Greek colony of Mylai ..

Hoy te llevo a descubrir conmigo el Fuerte de Los Castricianos, el lugar más romántico del casco antiguo de Milazzo.
El pueplo se desarrollo a los pies de la ciudad amurallada que acoge en su interior los restos del castillo árabe-normando-suabo-aragonés, la catedral antigua y el ex convento de los Benedectinos.
La fortaleza se visita con el mismo criterio con el que se abre una matrioska: desde la fortificación española que incluyo el aldeamedieval se llega, a través de la puerta Santa Maria, a la fortaleza aragonés que has incorporado el castillo Normando-Suabo. Cuando alcanzaremos el corazón de esa estructura nos enteraremos del primer fortín árabe normando!
Y no se acaba aquí! De echo la fortaleza fue edificada sobre los restos de la antigua colonia griega de Mylai…

Oggi ti porto con me a scoprire il fortino dei Castriciani, il posto più romantico del borgo storico di Milazzo!
Il borgo milazzese nasce ai piedi della cittadella fortificata che al suo interno ospita le vestigia del castello arabo-normanno- svevo-aragonese, il Duomo antico di Milazzo e l’ex convento Benedettino.
La cittadella si visita con lo stesso principio con cui si apre una matrioska: dalle mura spagnole cinquecentesche, che inclusero il borgo medievale, si passa, attraverso la porta Santa Maria, all’interno della fortezza aragonese che inglobò il castello Normanno- Svevo. Giunti al cuore della struttura si scopre la torre normanna che, probabilmente, incluse i resti di un fortino arabo!
Ma non finisce qui! La cittadella insiste sui resti dell’acropoli di Mylai, l’antica colonia greca da cui prende il nome la moderna città di Milazzo!
