Following ancient road to France you can find a 1000 years old abbey called Sacra di San Michele. It is situated on a top of the mountain, symbolising eternal fight of Saint Michael with evil. Mysterious history of this place inspired Umberto Eco to write his debut “The name of the rose” @ Sacra di San Michele

Provincia del Verbano-Cusio-Ossola is the northernmost province of Piedmont. Apart of Lago d’Orta (Cusio) and western coast of Lago Maggiore (Verbano) it includes the valley of Ossola, which begins with Mergozzo. Here, during the War, the biggest partisan republic existed. Yet another reason to remember that place in these days... Once I met one guy who was born soon after the War in this province. His parents gave him a name of a Soviet partisan with whom they fought together. His name was Naski. Well, even if I never heard this name before, and the name itself means “Socks” in Russian, I believe that in this way they wanted to commemorate the glorious past 🇮🇹 and @ Lago di Mergozzo

The day of liberation from na**sm and fascism, 25th of April 1945. It happened 75 years ago, last n**i occupants left Italy 🇮🇹, Mussolini made an attempt to flee together with the last groups of Germans two days after, but partisans found him and his mistress Clara Petacci on a border with Switzerland and hung them at Piazzale Loreto, known for ex*****on of antifascists. Two years ago we passed by this square heading to Lago d’Orta. A day to remember

Another great one day trip to Piedmont’s south. Passing by Alessandria, birthplace of Umberto Eco, where on a main square there is a monument to the character of his novel, we came to Acqui Terme. The hot springs of this place were famous since there was Roman town Acquæ Statiellæ, so we visited the ancient baths remnants. After having lunch there, in excellent local place with Russian-speaking chef, we continued our tour. Hiking from monastery of Bormida, which was founded around 1050 AD, to Cassinasco up on the hill to look over the valley where Barbaresco wine is produced e 🇮🇹 @ Monastero Bormida, Piedmont, Italy

The wine tour to Piedmont’s south. In one day we visited the zones of Gavi and Ovada, famous for their white and red wines respectively. The wineries of Cascina Gentile (cellar and laboratory) and Cascina Boccaccio kept their doors open for us. 🍷 and @ Mascatagliata (Lerma)

In Lombardia there is a unique place to visit - Oltrepò Pavese. The name means simply “the other side of Po river”. From cultural aspects it’s closer to Emilia and even the local dialect is a variety of Emiliano. We visited this castle of Stefanago while the organic wine festival took place there. 🍷 Closer to than 🇮🇹 @ Castello di Stefanago - Storia, Arte e Cultura
