A piece of Tuscany is hidden in everyday language around the world. Every time someone says the word "pistol" (𝘱𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘭𝘢), they are unwittingly paying homage to a small Italian town. It is not a coincidence, nor by chance. The pistol literally takes its name from the city of 𝗣𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗶𝗮, where it was invented in 1540.
The "𝘱𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘪𝘦𝘴𝘦" was a revolution: the first truly portable firearm in history. It is hard to believe, but before this Tuscan invention, fi****ms were cumbersome and difficult to carry. This innovation was not only a triumph of local craftsmanship, but an invention that radically changed the course of military history and, consequently, society.
As we walk the streets of Pistoia today, we may not think about the enormous impact this city has had on the world. The legacy of the "𝘱𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘪𝘦𝘴𝘦" lives on not only in museums, but in the very language we use every day.
