One of the Hallmark experiences of visiting Thailand, especially northern Thailand, is to take part in an elephant experience. I was hesitant about this, because of stories of so many tourist attractions that mistreat animals and so initially, I wasn’t sure if I was going to include it in our itinerary.

However, thanks to relationships with my in-destination partners, we were able to find a nature park that is something different entirely. It serves as a rehab facility for elephants that had been mistreated previously. Many of the elephants were injured and recovering from being abused in the past. The money from tourist tickets goes to paying for the handlers (one handler per elephant) and food and facilities for the animals.

At this nature park, there is no riding or interacting with the elephants, just observing. Even just this experience made me extremely nervous! Such giant, seemingly prehistoric creatures… I was embarrassingly terrified the whole time.

In the end though, I was very happy to have had the opportunity to experience this on my recent trip. There is something extremely humbling about being among these genuinely different creatures that we share this earth with.

If sustainable and ethical travel is important to you, rest assured that I have the contacts in the industry to make sure that what you are contributing to is truly something genuine. Because honestly, it’s hard to tell sometimes if it’s just for marketing or if what you are supporting is truly beneficial for the communities you’re visiting.

Our trip to Norway, visiting Oslo, Flåm, and Bergen, was truly one of the best trips we’ve ever taken—and so much of that is thanks to Caitlyn with AumJourneys.

From beginning to end, every detail was thoughtfully planned and perfectly coordinated. The hotel selections were outstanding, with beautiful properties in wonderful locations that made each destination even more enjoyable.

The excursions were truly the highlight of the trip. We experienced fascinating historic walking tours, breathtaking railway journeys, a gorgeous kayaking excursion, private hikes through Norway’s incredible scenery, and even a food tour. Each experience was unique and gave us a wonderful mix of culture, adventure, history, and incredible food.

What impressed us most was how seamlessly everything came together. There was the perfect balance between planned activities and time to simply enjoy our surroundings. We never felt rushed, yet we always had something special to look forward to.

Caitlyn was exceptional throughout the entire planning process. Her knowledge, attention to detail, and ability to choose experiences that truly matched what we wanted made this trip feel effortless. She thought of everything, and the itinerary allowed us to experience the very best of Oslo, Flåm, and Bergen.
