Planning Portugal and only thinking about Lisbon? Porto deserves a place on the itinerary.

In the heart of the city, Infante Sagres has been part of Porto since 1951, when it opened as the city’s first luxury hotel. Its interiors still have plenty of character, including a beautiful stained-glass staircase, while its downtown location puts Livraria Lello, the Ribeira riverfront, and the port wine lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia within easy reach.

And Porto pairs especially well with a few days in the Douro Valley, just outside the city, for vineyard visits, beautiful scenery, and a different side of northern Portugal.

We’re home from our Mediterranean journey aboard Explora I, and our latest Passport Pages is now on Wander Well.

Over seven nights, we sailed from Barcelona to Rome, with stops in Cannes, Portofino, Livorno, Porto Cervo, and Ajaccio. It was our first opportunity to experience Explora Journeys firsthand, while also getting a closer look at several very different Mediterranean ports along the way.

Now that we’re home from our Mediterranean journey, there are still a few places from the trip we want to share, including where we stayed for our final night in Rome.

We originally discovered Hotel Barocco through a recommendation from , and it turned out to be a wonderful choice. Overlooking Piazza Barberini, the hotel is in a great location for exploring the city. The Trevi Fountain is an easy walk, and we even walked to the Colosseum in about 25 minutes.

The staff were a standout during our stay. Everyone was warm, friendly, and incredibly helpful, offering great recommendations nearby and seamlessly arranging our transfers from the cruise port and to the airport.

Charming, intimate, and very well located, Hotel Barocco is one we’ll be happy to recommend to our clients visiting Rome.

Our Mediterranean journey has come to an end.

Before leaving Rome this morning, we made one final stop at the Trevi Fountain. It was the perfect way to close an unforgettable trip through Spain, France, Italy, Corsica, and Sardinia.

Over the past week, we've wandered colorful harbors, explored historic streets, sailed aboard Explora I, and experienced so many places we'd been looking forward to seeing. Every destination brought something different, and we're grateful for every moment along the way.

Thank you for following along with us throughout this journey. While we're heading home, this trip isn't quite over. We'll be sharing more from our time in the Mediterranean in the weeks ahead, and we're excited to launch our new podcast soon, including one episode recorded aboard Explora I.

Today we traded the sea for the streets of Rome.

After disembarking this morning, we checked into our hotel near Piazza Barberini before making our way to the Colosseum. It was one of the places we were most looking forward to seeing, and it certainly didn't disappoint.

With the afternoon heat, we decided to save the Roman Forum for tomorrow morning before our flight home.

Before turning in for the night, we took a walk through Piazza Barberini and stopped to admire Bernini's Fountain of the Triton illuminated after dark.

It's been an incredible Mediterranean journey, and Rome is a wonderful place to bring it to a close.

Ajaccio offered a wonderful introduction to Corsica, with history, local life, and beautiful waterfront views all within an easy walk.

We passed by the Chapelle Impériale before exploring Maison Bonaparte, the historic home where Napoleon was born, then wandered through the Sunday market, strolled past the Citadel, and enjoyed time along the waterfront promenade before returning to Explora I.

Tomorrow, we arrive in Rome to conclude our Mediterranean voyage.

Porto Cervo is the kind of destination that immediately lives up to its reputation.

Superyachts fill the marina, sculptures line the promenade, and elegant boutiques add to the unmistakable sense of style that has made this stretch of Sardinia so well known. It's polished without feeling pretentious, creating an atmosphere that is both vibrant and relaxed.

A wonderful afternoon exploring one of the Mediterranean's most iconic harbors. Next stop: Corsica.
