One cruise experience can look completely different from another. A river cruise through Europe has very little in common with an expedition to Antarctica, just as a small luxury ship offers a very different experience from a large resort-style ship. And exploring the Mediterranean by yacht is something else entirely.

The differences go well beyond the size of the ship. The itinerary, time in port, dining, service, onboard atmosphere, and what’s included all shape the experience. That’s why choosing a cruise isn’t really about finding the “best” cruise line. It’s about finding the experience that fits the way you want to travel.

So, if you’ve always thought you weren’t a cruise person, it may be worth looking at cruising differently. Maybe the better question is: What kind of experience do I want?

When Laura visited Český Krumlov last year, she only had one day there, but it quickly became one of her favorite places from the trip.

She came home calling it a hidden gem, which, in hindsight, wasn’t entirely accurate. Český Krumlov has been drawing visitors for years, and its popularity continues to grow.

It got her thinking about how often we hear the phrase “hidden gem” in travel, and whether a place really needs to be undiscovered to feel like a discovery of your own.

When clients come to us with a long list of places they want to see, our job isn’t necessarily to change that list. Sometimes, it’s to figure out how to make it all work.

That was very much the case with this journey. The vision was there from the beginning. From there, we worked through how much time made sense in each city, the best way to travel between them, where flexibility mattered, and all the smaller decisions that can make a big difference over the course of a month.

What started as a wish list is now one complete journey, with each piece thoughtfully connected to the next.

This week, we’re planning something very different: an Antarctic expedition cruise with Silversea.

This journey includes sailing the Drake Passage before reaching the South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula. Once there, Silversea’s expedition team takes the lead, with Zodiac outings, shore landings, and plenty of opportunities to see Antarctica’s wildlife along the way.

It’s not every week we get to put Antarctica on our planning calendar, and this has been a fun one to work on.

Our Client Portal for hotel bookings lets you browse hotels, compare rates and available perks, and book on your own. It’s a convenient option for a last-minute overnight, a weekend away, or a trip where you already know what you’re looking for.

When you book through the Client Portal, your reservation stays connected to Telamon Travel, so you’ll still have us as your advisor and advocate throughout your trip.

Not every hotel is available through the Client Portal yet, so if you don’t see the property you’re looking for, simply reach out. We can always check for you.

For our first selection, we’re heading to Maui, where Fairmont Kea Lani and The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua are currently offering exclusive benefits through our Virtuoso affiliation.

It’s September 2026, and we’re already planning well into 2027 and 2028. For some trips, even 2029 is beginning to come into view.

The big milestones are driving it. Significant birthdays, anniversaries, one last summer before the kids head off, the trips that mark something. Those deserve the best rooms, not the leftovers, and the best rooms go early.

A few dates already on our radar:

The Eclipse of the Century, August 2, 2027. The path of totality crosses destinations including Cádiz, Málaga, Tangier, and Luxor, and accommodations in prime viewing locations are already in demand. Nile sailings around that date require especially early planning.

The Los Angeles Summer Olympics in 2028. The most desirable places to stay will be spoken for long before the torch arrives.

The 2030 World Cup, hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, with centenary matches in Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. If there’s a soccer fan in your household, this is the kind of trip that benefits from a serious head start.

And then there are cruises. Some of the most sought-after sailings for 2028 are already filling, particularly for destinations with limited seasons and departures. The same is true for festive travel, sought-after safari camps, and peak cherry blossom season. Limited inventory and fixed dates mean these trips often need to be planned much further ahead than travelers expect.
