🚽🧻As we all know, Roman cities was provided with public toilets, called Latrinae.
This service was useful to avoid disease, contamination of drinking water and to keep the cities clean.
👉They were free to use and... shared! No privacy there: people was used to seat next each other, and probably talking about their business! 😁
📍This is the latrines you can see in Ostia Antica, an incredible archaelogical site 20 minutes driving away from Rome.
🧐Have you already been there?
🚾🚻Despite we are used to consider the toilet like something essential and obvious to use, across the world it isn't so. That's why we can consider the Roman toilet system so advanced and smart.
➡️Today (november 18th) is the United Nations WORLD TOILET DAY, because toilet and sanitation facilities are an essencial right, and 1 in 4 people globally still don't have access to safe sanitation.
