Sul filo del racconto della vita di Nerone scopriremo i meravigliosi resti archeologici delle terme di Tito e Traiano nei luoghi un tempo abitati dall'imperatore.
Una passeggiata insolita fino al colle del Celio e nei dintorni del Colosseo.

🇮🇹 Condottiero, militare, politico, abile stratega, scrittore ma Cesare era anche un uomo che teneva alla cura del suo corpo tanto da depilarsi completamente e a quanto pare portava un piercing sul capezzolo, simbolo di virilità dei centurioni e di unione e solidarietà coi propri uomini. Un episodio destinato a coniare una frase in uso ancora oggi ce lo racconta Plutarco. Al tempo i Romani erano convinti di essere gli unici detentori dei gusti più raffinati in fatto di gastronomia ( e forse siamo così ancora oggi ).Una sera si recò a cena presso la ricca domus milanese di Valerio Leone coi suoi più stretti collaboratori. Una delle portate era un ricco piatto di asparagi conditi con delizioso b***o ma essi trovarono il condimento "barbaro". Cesare intervenne dicendo:" de gustibus non disputandum est". ( non si può discutere dei gusti personali).
Ancora oggi c'è questa contrapposizione tra gli amanti del b***o e chi invece preferisce l'olio extravergine d'oliva come gli antichi Romani.

🇮🇹 Il regno d'Italia mancava della sua naturale capitale e nella città molti si erano organizzati per combattere contro l'ostinazione papale. Tra loro una giovane donna, di trentadue anni, figlia di un eroe della Repubblica romana, nata a Trastevere. Il suo nome è Giuditta ed è già mamma di 4 bambini. Giuditta è tosta ed anche se incinta non si risparmia per la causa dei "ribelli". Il 25 ottobre 1867 sta preparando il pranzo per loro in un lanificio quando vengono assediati ed uccisi dai zuavi pontifici. Muoiono tra gli altri Giuditta, il marito ed il figlio Francesco. Giuditta era una di noi

Among them a young woman, thirty-two years old, daughter of a hero of the Roman Republic, born in Trastevere. Her name is Giuditta and she is already a mother of 4 children. Judith is tough and even if pregnant she doesn't spare herself for the cause of the "rebels". On 25 October 1867 she is preparing lunch for them in a wool mill when they are besieged and killed by the papal Zouaves. Among others Giuditta, her husband and son Francesco die. Giuditta was one of us!

🇮🇹 Piazza del Popolo è un posto speciale per i romani. Quanti avvenimenti e storie hanno avuto luogo in questa elegantissima piazza, dalla proclamazione della nuova costituzione fatta da Ciceruacchio alle condanne a morte di Targhini e Montanari, dagli ingressi degli eleganti inglesi per il Grand Tour fino ai festeggiamenti per il Carnevale. Ci avviciniamo alla festa felle donne e da oggi fino all'otto di marzo dedicherò i miei post alle donne, artiste e non. Nella chiesa di S.Maria in Montesanto, una delle due chiese " gemelle", è conservata un'opera tuttora venerata che ritrae la Vergine ed il bambino. Dopo un recente restauro, finanziato dalla moglie del regista Luigi Magni, è stata definitivamente assegnata alla pittrice romana nonché prima architettrice al mondo, Plautilla Bricci. Plautilla con la sua caparbietà riuscì a rompere quel tetto di cristallo che aveva impedito alle donne di lavorare come architetto. Plautilla riuscì ad affermarsi in un mondo maschile, quello del Seicento, che tuttavia grazie ad alcune menti illuminate, poté dedicarsi alle sue passioni. W Plautilla, w le donne libere!
🇬🇧🇺🇲 Piazza del Popolo is a special place for the Romans; many events have taken place in this elegant square, from the proclamation of the new constitution made by Ciceruacchio to the death sentences of Targhini and Montanari, from the elegant English "tourists" for the Grand Tour to the celebrations for the Carnival. For the Women's day and from today until the 8th of March I will dedicate my posts to women, artists and not. In the church of Santa Maria in Montesanto, one of the two "twin" churches, there is a venerated painting that portrays the Virgin and child. After a recent restoration, financed by the wife of the director Luigi Magni, it was definitively assigned to the Roman painter and the first woman architect in the world, Plautilla Bricci. Plautilla with her stubbornness managed to break the glass roof that had prevented women from working as an architect. Plautilla succeeded in establishing herself in a male world, that of the seventeenth century, which, however, thanks to some enlightened minds, was able to devote herself to her passions.

Un dettaglio che solo dopo una lunga osservazione si coglie...
Sull'isola Tiberina si trova la cosiddetta " torre della Pulzella". Si tratta di ciò che rimane di un complesso di edifici risalenti a varie epoche. La torre nello specifico fu eretta dalla potente famiglia dei Pierleoni nel x secolo.
Lo sapevate che la torre fu anche temporanea sede pontificia? Vi trovarono infatti rifugio papa Vittore III e Matilde di Canossa per sfuggire all'esercito dell'antipapa Clemente II.
Il nome trae origine da una testa marmorea che raffigura una giovane donna, datata al I secolo d. C. Il volto è stato quasi cancellato dal tempo ma ancora conserva la meravigliosa pettinatura a tre corone di trecce.

🇺🇲🇬🇧 A detail that can be noticed only after a long observation ... On the Tiber Island there is the so-called "Pulzella tower". This is what remains of a complex of buildings dating back to various eras. The tower was specifically built by the powerful Pierleoni family in the 10th century. Did you know that the tower was also a temporary papal seat? In fact, Pope Victor III found refuge there to escape the army of antipope Clement II. The name originates from a marble head depicting a young woman, dated to the 1st century a.D. The face has been almost erased by time but still retains the wonderful three-crown braid hairstyle.
