This morning we visited the Sanctuary of the Fifth Guadalupan Apparition in Santa María Tulpetlac—a place of profound peace, hope, and healing.

It was here, in December 1531, that Our Lady appeared to St. Juan Diego’s uncle, Juan Bernardino, who was gravely ill. He was miraculously healed and, for the first time, Our Lady revealed the name by which she wished to be known throughout the world: Holy Mary of Guadalupe. The sanctuary stands on the very site of the humble home where St. Juan Diego and his uncle lived, making it one of the most sacred places connected to the Guadalupan story.

Because this is a place so deeply associated with God’s healing grace, Fr. Zak offered the Anointing of the Sick to those in need, followed by a healing blessing using the oil of St. Charbel—a beautiful providence on the very day the Church celebrates St. Charbel’s feast. Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Today was a day of profound grace.

This morning we celebrated Holy Mass and prayed before the relics of Blessed Miguel Pro, the courageous Jesuit priest and martyr of Mexico. During the religious persecution of the 1920s, when the sacraments were outlawed, he risked his life to secretly celebrate Mass, hear confessions, and bring Christ to the faithful. Arrested and executed in 1927, his final words were, ”¡Viva Cristo Rey!” (“Long live Christ the King!”). His witness reminds us that no earthly power can silence the Gospel or extinguish faith.

Later, we visited and prayed before the relics of Blessed Concepción “Conchita” Cabrera de Armida, a wife, mother of nine, mystic, and spiritual writer. Without entering a religious order, she demonstrated that the path to holiness is found in the ordinary duties of family life when lived with extraordinary love for Christ. Her writings and spirituality continue to inspire countless people to embrace the Cross, the Eucharist, and God’s transforming love in everyday life.

May the witness of Blessed Miguel Pro and Blessed Conchita strengthen our faith and inspire us to live the Gospel with greater courage, fidelity, and love.

Between heaven and earth.
The incredible mirrored design of the floor and ceiling at St. Peter’s basilica —what’s above echoes below, and we stand right in the middle of it. The ceiling draws the eye upward in awe. We are suspended between the divine and the human, held in the space where eternity meets the present moment. The beauty above reminds us that our destination is heaven.
