THE PATRILINEAR FAMILY TREE OF THE BONGIOVIS

Today marks the birthday of Jon Bon Jovi, stage name of John Francis Bongiovi Jr (Perth Amboy, March 2, 1962), American singer-songwriter, musician and actor, leader of Bon Jovi, a well-known rock group from New Jersey.
Thanks to the State Archives of Agrigento, precisely of Cianciana and Sciacca, we were able to partially reconstruct the history of his family.

HISTORICAL-GENEALOGICAL NOTES
Jon Bon Jovi was born in Perth Amboy (New Jersey), with the name of John Francis Bongiovi Jr, from an American father of Italian origins (his great-grandfather and great-grandmother were born in Cianciana, Agrigento) and Slovakian and from an American mother of German origins and Russian. His mother, Carol Sharkey, was a Pl***oy Bunny (a waitress at the Pl***oy Clubs in the famous uniform), while his father, John Bongiovi, was a barber.

The press has always declared that the town of origin of the Bongiovi is Sciacca: it is partially so. His great-grandfather Giuseppe (1887-1857) was actually born in Cianciana to Luigi (1830-1903), a shoemaker from Sciacca who married Antonina Baiamonte (1854-1905) from Cianciana.

The Bongiovi in Cianciana, descendants of Luigi, were all "solfatari", therefore employed in the solfataras of the Agrigento area, while Luigi was a shoemaker, like the brothers who remained in Sciacca. His father Mastro Domenico (about 1790), as can be seen from the records, was a baker, as was Luigi's grandfather, i.e. Giuseppe (about 1760), who was a miller and baker. A family of humble origins from southern Sicily who never thought they could have a rocker great-grandson!

Elizabeth II Queen of England passed away today at the age of 96.
A strong woman. An example. Since 1952, she has been at the service of her country while going through a radical upheaval in world history, accompanying the British monarchy in a process of modernization that still makes it a beloved and respected institution all over the world, despite numerous scandals. and the dark times she went through due to some family members.
Elizabeth, was able to demonstrate that, even today, the monarchy can be compatible with the other constitutional bodies of a democratic country.
The queen had overcome very difficult moments, both in public and private life, but always with great dignity and uncommon strength of mind.
He remains an example to all those who are called to have state responsibilities and represent a government and to keep its people united with an example of love of country and dedication to duty that should inspire so many men who represent public institutions.
R.I.P.
Her son King Charles III of England will succeed her.
The Queen is dead, God save the King!

The Marchesano family: ancestors of the great boxer Rocky Marciano

One of the greatest and most undefeated boxers in the world was an unforgettable Italian-American named Rocky Marciano, son of Quirino Machesano (1894), son of Rocco (1869) and Pasqualina Picciuto, two Italian emigrants who had left the country in the early years of the century; the first originally from Guardiagrele in the province of Chieti; while the mother, a housewife, was originally from Ripa Teatina, and not from San Bartolomeo in Galdo in the province of Benevento, as reported in some biographies. In addition to Rocco who was named after the grandfather from family tradition, the Marchegianos had five other children, three daughters: Alice, Concetta and Elizabeth and two sons Louis and Peter. Rocco soon adopted the pseudonym of Rocky Marciano Marchesano which brought prestige to the world of boxing and beyond. The surname is written in late deeds, also as Marchegiano or Marchigiani. Rocky's ancestors often moved here and there in the Abruzzo region. Quirino was the son of Rocco and worked as a shoemaker and was married on his first marriage to Luisa Salvatore, Pasquale's daughter. Four years later, due to the untimely death of his wife, Rocco went to second marriage with Filomena De Virgilis. Rocky's Great Grandfather; Giuseppe Antonio (1825 ca.), who was a butcher (or butcher) by trade, was a native of Semivicoli, but some documents give him a native of Alghero ?, in Sardinia but are not reliable at the moment. It is certain that he resided in Guardiagrele and then in Bucchianico, perhaps for work reasons; great-grandmother Giulia Cataldi or Castaldi, a housewife, was originally from Miglianico. Father of Giuseppe Antonio who, born in Guardiagrele, was Giovanni (about 1787), a farmer by profession, married to Anna Vincenza Ferrara; field worker. These are the first ancestors of the great Rocky Marciano, who was always proud of his deep Italian roots ....
