One of the easiest mistakes to make in Rome?

Telling your taxi driver to take you to "the Vatican" when you actually mean the Vatican Museums.

Most visitors are surprised to learn that the Vatican Museums entrance isn't in St. Peter's Square. In fact, you'll need to walk around the Vatican walls to reach it, which can take around 20 minutes on foot.

If you've booked with us, you'll receive info on how to get to the Vatican Museums entrance and find our meeting point where we always have someone waiting with a LivTours sign.

Consider this your friendly Rome travel tip for the day. Save it now and thank yourself later when you're standing in front of the right entrance ✨

Have you heard about the heatwave in Europe right now? 🥵 If you’re traveling there this summer, you'll want to save these tips:

➡️ Stay Hydrated
➡️ Wear Appropriate Clothing
➡️ Remember the 3 S's: Sunblock, Shade, Siestas
➡️ Choose Your Tour Times Wisely

⛪ Don't forget about the dress code for Churches!
Cover shoulders, midriffs, and knees, & remove hats.
⛲Fountains in Rome may be tempting but...
Tourists in Rome are not allowed to enter the historic fountains and can face fines, so as tempting as it may be to jump in, it's not worth it!

To all of our clients on tours in the summer months: we want you to have wonderful summertime travel experiences, so make sure to stay cool and let our guides know if you're needing any extra assistance 🫶

You may have heard of some of these places, but have you visited them in person?

4 Places in Europe You Didn’t Know Were Significant to LGBTQ+ History 🏳️‍🌈

Le Marais | Paris 🇫🇷
Le Marais has been the heart of LGBTQ+ life in Paris since the late 20th century when q***r-owned businesses began opening up in the area. Over the years it transformed into one of Europe’s most visible q***r neighborhoods.

Eixample | Barcelona 🇪🇸
Barcelona’s Eixample district became the city’s main LGBTQ+ neighborhood in the late 20th century. Two main streets, Carrer de Balmes and Carrer d’Aragó, developed a dense network of bars, cafés, and cultural spaces that helped establish Barcelona as one of Europe’s most LGBTQ+ friendly cities.

Soho | London 🇬🇧
Soho became a gathering place for LGBTQ+ communities during periods when visibility elsewhere in the city was limited. Its bars, clubs, and late-night venues played a major role in building community life and supporting activism, particularly during the late 20th century and the HIV/AIDS crisis.

San Giovanni in Laterano | Rome 🇮🇹
San Giovanni in Laterano is the city's unofficial LGBTQ+ area due to its organic growth as an open-minded gathering space, proximity to iconic landmarks, and pivotal grassroots activism.

Each of these places is a living part of the city itself, worth understanding more deeply and perhaps visiting on your next trip to Europe! 🏳️‍🌈

The most important thing to remember after booking ahead?

Make time for lesser-known sites 🏛️

It's no secret that Rome is crowded in the summer, but that doesn't mean you can't still enjoy yourself while getting away from the crowds. Some of our travelers' favorite moments aren't at the Colosseum or Vatican, they're at our Pasta Making Class, underground in the Catacombs, or biking along the ancient Appian Way.

These moments are what make your trip more personal. Save these ideas for how to avoid the crowds in Rome and comment "Rome" below for a link to all our favorite tours off the beaten path.

History lovers, this is a big one 👀

For the first time since it was created nearly 1,000 years ago, the Bayeux Tapestry will return to the UK as part of a historic loan to the British Museum. From September 2026 to July 2027, visitors will have the rare opportunity to see one of the most important surviving works of the medieval world in person.

Stretching almost 70 metres (230 ft) in length, the tapestry tells the story of the Norman Conquest of 1066 through dozens of embroidered scenes filled with kings, knights, ships, battles, and everyday medieval life. It's one of the most detailed visual records we have of this period.

One detail many people don't realize? ➡️ The Bayeux Tapestry is probably not from Bayeux. While it has been housed in Normandy for centuries, many historians believe it was embroidered in England shortly after the Norman Conquest.

Tickets go on sale starting July 1st but will be in high demand, so make sure you book ahead. Are you planning a trip to London to see it? 🇬🇧

**The Bayeux is not included in our British Museum tour since guiding is not permitted in special exhibitions, but we can secure tickets for you upon request! 😊

Will you be at Calcio Storico this year?

Every year, Florence hosts one of the wildest historic sporting events in Italy in June, called Calcio Storico.

t’s part football, part rugby, part wrestling and dates back to the 1500s. This Florentine tradition pits teams from Florence’s four historic neighborhoods against each other with everyone dressed in full Renaissance costume.

The final match is always played on June 24, during the city’s celebration of its patron saint, Saint John the Baptist.

🗓️ Here's when to see it:
Saturday, June 13, 2026 - Rossi vs Verdi
Sunday, June 14, 2026 - Bianchi vs Azzurri
📍 Piazza Santa Croce

*Make sure to get your tickets early as they sell out quick 🎟️

Tag someone who'd love to see this!
