Dear Members of ERIH,
Some of you, especially our German members, know it: ERIH has for many years maintained a partnership with the German quarterly magazine "Industriekultur- Magazin für Denkmalpflege, Landschaft, Sozial-, Umwelt- und Technikgeschichte”.
ERIH has regularly featured anchor points and regional routes in a separate section of the magazine and reported on ERIH's work. Our German members benefited from the co-operation by subscribing to the magazine free of charge. It has long been our wish to make this benefit available to all our members, especially as the magazine regularly covers international topics.
The time has finally come: thanks to an extended co-operation and the funding from the European Union, the first issue of an English-language (digital) version of the journal is now available: “Industrial Culture 1/25. Monument Preservation, Landscape, Social History, Environmental History,History of Technology”.
The journal is only published digitally as a PDF, twice a year. It is not identical to the German-language journal, but contains a special selection of articles for the European audience, including one or two first publications. The e-paper is fully searchable and has active links. In the table of contents, you can move the cursor over the article headings; clicking on them automatically takes you to the selected article. When you open the bookmarks, you will also see the article headings and can navigate directly to them.
The English edition is published exclusively for ERIH members; free access to the digital journal is included in the membership. As a member, you are authorised to share the document in a private and collegial environment, but may not make it available on public platforms such as the web.
We have agreed with the publishers of the German journal that we will initially produce two issues. Whether and how we continue will depend primarily on how much interest the magazine arouses. Thus we are very much looking forward to your feedback in order to make this decision.
As a long-standing co-publisher of the German "Industriekultur" magazine, I am particularly pleased that we are able to make this offer to our members. I would like to thank the publisher klartext in Essen and the editors of the German journal for their generous cooperation, Norbert Tempel for his excellent work as the executive editor and, finally, Massimo Preite and Łucja Zawadzka, who are working and representing ERIH with me on the editorial board.
I hope you all enjoy reading the magazine!
