🍇🏛️ A New Cultural Heritage Partner Joins the Iter Vitis Family
We are delighted to welcome the Janus Pannonius Museum of Pécs (Hungary) as an Honorary Member of Iter Vitis – Cultural Route of the Council of Europe.
This important institution, one of Hungary’s most renowned museums, preserves and interprets the rich cultural history of the Pécs and Baranya region, a territory where viticulture has shaped landscapes, traditions, identities, and communities for centuries.
Particularly significant for Iter Vitis is the museum’s dedicated itinerary exploring the history of viticulture and winemaking in Southern Hungary. Through archaeological findings, historical collections, ethnographic materials, and educational activities, visitors can discover how wine has accompanied the region’s development from Roman times to the present day.
The museum offers a remarkable example of how cultural institutions can connect tangible and intangible heritage, transforming the story of wine into a broader narrative about people, landscapes, trade, traditions, and intercultural exchanges.
During the 13th Training Academy on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe in Pécs, the official Iter Vitis plaque was installed at the museum, symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter of cooperation dedicated to research, education, cultural tourism, and the promotion of Europe’s shared wine heritage.
We warmly thank the Janus Pannonius Museum for joining our network and look forward to developing future projects together, strengthening the links between museums, wine regions, and Cultural Routes across Europe.
Welcome to Iter Vitis! 🍷🌍
