After a long absence from posting, here we are again with some good news! What took less than a second to destroy is not finally restored (after 4 months 🫣). The town of Sant’Alessio is working to restore the beach for the summer and the weather feels like summer is on our doorsteps! ☀️

We still have some space in the second half of August, so come stay with us!

🌊 A heartfelt thank you. 🇮🇹💙

After the devastating effects of Cyclone Harry on the east coast of Sicily, we’ve been deeply moved by the messages of concern and support from our past guests. Your kindness means more than we can say — grazie di cuore.

We’re relieved to share that while Sant’Alessio Seaside did sustain significant damage to parts of the property and the lungomare, our building is safe and structurally sound, and we remain open and available for stays.

We were fortunate to avoid the level of destruction experienced in some neighboring towns. Repairs are already being planned and will begin as soon as possible. In the meantime, some services may be limited and a rental car is recommended for transportation until local infrastructure is fully restored.

But if there’s one thing that defines Sicily, it’s resilience. People here are already rolling up their sleeves, helping one another, and working hard to rebuild what was lost. The spirit of this island shines even in difficult moments.

We look forward to welcoming you again soon — and showing you just how strong and beautiful this place still is.

We are already on the heels of another “ferragosto!”, the 15th of August. It’s THE most important summer holiday in the south and it represents the Assumption of Mary (the Madonna) into heaven. It’s also one of the hottest periods of the year 🥵. Many towns around Sant’Alessio have celebration that involve simple processions to elaborate candle-lit nighttime ceremonies, to the gigantic “Vara” of Messina. The video here is from last year and, if you can get there to see it, is well worth the traffic. The atmosphere is joyous and emotional. Hundreds of people are in the streets, barefoot, pulling the large ropes that drag the statue through the streets of Messina. BUON FERRAGOSTO ❤️
