Missione Naxos 2026-venerdi 8 maggio - ventottesimo giorno- Atene Kalkis -92 miglia.

Missione Naxos 2026 – martedì 5 maggio – ventiquattresimo giorno-Elafonissos – Monemvasia -Atene - 122 miglia.

Mission Naxos 2026 – Tuesday May 4 – twenty-fourth day-Elafonissos – Monemvasia -Athens – 122 miles.
There is always a pinch of rebellion in the heart of those who have to leave paradise, but the call of the sea is stronger than nostalgia. In this spirit, the third Team climbs back aboard the Naxos and, after a last look at the crystal clear waters of Elafonissos, points the bow towards the horizon. The destination is Athens, where the charisma of Anastasios, Past President of the OFSE and guardian of the Greek rubber boating tradition, awaits them. That's over 120 miles of sun and wind. The solemn moment arrives at Cape Malea: scapulating the dreaded promontory, the crew experiences the great rite of passage, leaving the Ionian Sea to embrace the energy of the Aegean Sea. Twenty miles from the cape, history unfolds in the form of the majestic fortress of Monemvasia; a souvenir photo under that stone giant is a must, before heading back to Hydra. After crossing the Argolic Gulf and stopping for lunch among the colors of Hydra, the journey continues to the port of Poros. Here navigation becomes choreography: despite the absence of fixed distributors on the quay, the organization is millimetric. Thanks to the "telephone foresight" of our Deputy — who mapped every petrol station on the islands — the petrol station attendant is already there, ready to welcome them for a lightning-fast pit stop. The arrival at the Marina of Tzitzifies takes place in the middle of the afternoon, shortly after 4 pm. There is just enough time to register the mooring before dedicating ourselves to the final ritual: the thorough cleaning of the glorious Naxos 23 and its beating heart, the indestructible Suzuki DF200 APL, which faced the Aegean without hesitation. At 7 pm, the curtain falls on the adventure of Marco, Alessandro and Matilde. Accompanied by the very kind Anastasios, the three head towards the airport, tired but loaded with the sea. The journey, however, does not end here: tomorrow the fourth crew is ready to write a new chapter.
Stay tuned!

Monemvasia (often called the "Gibraltar of the East") is one of the most picturesque places in Laconia, in the Peloponnese. It is a tidal island connected to the mainland by a thin strip of land and a bridge, whose name derives from its conformation: mone (alone) and emvasia (entrance). The city was not born for commercial purposes, but out of pure necessity for survival. About 583 A.D., the inhabitants of the surrounding areas (particularly neighboring Sparta and Laconia) sought a safe haven from the invasions of the Avars and Slavs that were sweeping into the Peloponnese. The rocky massif was inaccessible from the sea and easily defended by land. The inhabitants began to build on the top of the plateau (the "Upper Town"), making it a natural fortress invisible from the coast. For almost 700 years it remained under the control of Constantinople. It became a thriving commercial center, famous for the export of Malvasia w**e (whose name is precisely the corruption of the of Monemvasia). It is said that this w**e was so precious that it was served at the tables of kings and popes all over Europe. It was said that the secret of its sweetness came from the particular sun that kissed the vineyards of Laconia and from the sea breeze that "salted" the grapes. On the top of the rock stands the church of Agia Sophia. Local legend has it that during the Ottoman period, despite being converted into a mosque, Byzantine icons continued to "whisper" prayers during the night, keeping the Christian spirit of the city alive until its liberation.

Missione Naxos 2026 – lunedì 4 maggio – ventitreesimo giorno-Pylos – Elafonissos 88 miglia.

Note:

Mission Naxos 2026 – Monday, May 4 – twenty-third day-Pylos – Elafonissos 88 miles.

Yesterday, Sunday 3 May, Marco, Matilde and Alessandro, preferred to save themselves a further downpour expected throughout the Mani and stop another night in Pylos. Better this way, in the flashes of sunshine they took the opportunity to reposition stickers and do various cleaning. Today, the sun finally cries, Matilde shouts! "Lucid" sea, no wind, Naxos launched towards Elafonissos, the small fantastic island sheltered at the last offshoot of Laconia before entering the Aegean. Leaving Pylos, six miles into the channel that separates Methoni from the small archipelago of the island of Sapienza, passing in front of the Turkish Bourzi and the Venetian fortress. Arrived at the middle and scapulous "finger" Cape Matapan, it is impossible not to enter Porto Kaio, an ancient pirate hideout. From there set up the NSX Simrad, heading straight to Elafonissos at 20 miles. Petrol refuelling both in Pylos and Elafonissos with bins, the "online" refuelling is not yet active this season. Consumption is monitored, the Suzukone always asks for 1.1 liters per mile. Tomorrow a long stage of about 120 miles where their friend Anastasios, Honorary President of the Athenian Inflatable Boat Club OFSE, awaits them in Athens.
Stay connected

Notes:
Elafonissos (elaf = deer) and (nissos = island) is a small jewel located between the Peloponnese and Kythera. Despite its small size, its history is intrinsically linked to the great geological changes and maritime routes of the Mediterranean. In ancient times, Elafonissos was not an island. It was a peninsula connected to Laconia by a thin isthmus. The final transformation took place in 375 AD, when a catastrophic earthquake that struck the entire eastern Mediterranean caused the sinking of the isthmus, separating the mainland from the current island forever The area was formerly populated by a large number of small red deer, which locals and travelers could easily spot.
A lesser-known historical detail concerns the island's sovereignty in the nineteenth century. After the independence of Greece, Elafonissos was the subject of a diplomatic dispute between Greece and Great Britain (which controlled the Ionian Islands at the time). The British claimed that the island belonged to Kythera, and therefore was under their protectorate. It was not until 1850 that the island was officially recognized as part of Greek territory.

Missione Naxos 2026 – sabato 2 maggio – ventunesimo giorno-Lefkada-Killini-Pylos – 135 miglia.
All’arrivo, solito contributo di carburante 1,16 litro miglia.

Note:

Mission Naxos 2026 – Saturday, May 2 – twenty-first day-Lefkada-Killini-Pylos – 135 miles.
Great stage today, 135 miles with a stop in Killini halfway along the route for a prudential refueling and arrival in Pylos greeted by a gentle drizzle. Historic place for all club members sailing around the Peloponnese. Once there was also the "convenient" petrol station at the end of the square overlooking the old port. For some years now, for safety reasons, it has been removed to make way for a bakery. Even the "new" port built about twenty years ago has remained unfinished and unsafe due to abandonment.
Our people had to implement the system that has been tested for years and consists of returning to the old port and mooring, after obtaining permission, under the windows of the Harbour Master's Office. Great stage we said, left Lefkada, given the strong wind from ENE, sheltered route passing between the Dragonere (Curzolari) up to Oxia and then, with a nice 23 knots first on the beam and then on the garden, course on Killini. At the restart from Killini, after having scaped the cape, thanks to the shelter, our guys gave the throttle putting the Naxos at ease and holding an average of 27/28 knots. The Suzuki 200 is also great, never a hesitation and always on the bike.
On arrival, usual fuel contribution 1.16 liter miles. Surely you could still save something on consumption, but having wanted to keep the engine a little lower to avoid cavitations once you arrive in the Cyclades sea is a penalty that must be paid. Tomorrow, Marco, Matilde and Alessandro will probably stay in Pylos for small maintenance work and to wait for the petrol ordered online. We will see.
Stay tuned!

Notes:
Pylos, located on the Ionian coast of the Peloponnese, is one of the places where the boundary between the fog of myth and the concreteness of history is thinner, this location has seen Homeric heroes, Spartan hoplites and imperial fleets pass through.
Also known as Navarino in Greek mythology, Pylos is inextricably linked to the figure of Nestor, the oldest and wisest of the Greek kings who participated in the Trojan War. Founded by Neleus (Nestor's father), the city became the heart of a prosperous kingdom. According to myth, this is where the young Hermes hid the 50 cows stolen from Apollo.
The cave is located under the remains of the castle of Paleokastro, overlooking the beautiful "omega" bay of Voidokilia. During the conflict between Athens and Sparta (425 BC), Pylos was the scene of the Battle of Sphacteria, the island that closes the bay. The Athenians managed to isolate and capture a contingent of Spartan hoplites on the island, an event that shocked the Greek world, destroying the myth of Spartan invincibility.
Pylos returned to the world stage on October 20, 1827, during the Greek War of Independence. In what was the last major naval battle in history fought entirely with sailing ships, the combined fleets of Britain, France and Russia destroyed the Ottoman-Egyptian fleet. This victory was decisive for the birth of the modern Greek state.
