Today, on World Bicycle Day, we found ourselves reflecting on an interesting concept shared by Find The Slow: the idea of “absence tourism”.
The growing desire for quieter places, slower rhythms, and journeys that feel less crowded and more meaningful.
For years, travel has often been associated with movement and performance, seeing more places, visiting more landmarks, fitting as much as possible into a limited amount of time.
But many travelers are starting to look for something different.
More time to slow down, more meaningful moments, more connection with the places they visit. And in many ways, this is exactly why we believe cycling offers such a unique way to experience Italy.
Because moving by bike naturally changes the rhythm of travel.
You notice details that would otherwise pass by unnoticed. You experience landscapes gradually. You stop in places that were never part of the original plan. You connect more deeply with local culture, villages, people, food, and everyday life.
In Italy especially, some of the most memorable moments are often found far from the crowds and beyond the classic checklist.
A quiet countryside road or a local winery, a small village that surprises you, the feeling of finally slowing down.
Perhaps the way we move through a destination shapes the experience more than we think.
This is a reflection inspired by Find the Slow and their interesting perspective on slower travel. Because it's so true that "less is more".
