LAGOON LITTLE SECRETS

🏛️ In 1291, all glass furnaces were moved from Venice to Murano.
The official reason? Fire prevention: open flames in the city’s wooden buildings were too dangerous. 🔥

But behind this safety measure was a clever political move: isolating the glassmakers on an island allowed the Venetian Republic to tightly control their know-how. Murano’s artisans were not allowed to leave the Republic, and anyone caught revealing secrets faced severe punishment. ⚖️

This protection turned Murano into a hub of innovation, where techniques like crystal glass, enamel decoration, and aventurine were born. Some recipes are still a well-kept secret, passed down only through generations of masters. ✨
