WhatsApp daily messages from the road.
Mary and Martin have been travelling with us for several years now, and this time we created a little something just for them: quiet countryside roads, a few gentle hills and authentic small towns away from the usual tourist routes.
Their ride to Venice took a different path from our classic tour, passing through Legnago, Monselice, the Euganean Hills, Adria, Chioggia, Venice and Mestre.

Every evening, we’d get a WhatsApp update with photos, stories and little discoveries from their day.
So here’s their journey, through their own photos and words. 🫶

Gravel between Soave and the plains. Autumn, a bit of mud, zero traffic.

Dirt roads through the vineyards, canal embankments, one short, sharp climb towards the castle and a descent with the whole plain opening up in front of you.

After rain there are a few puddles. That's part of the fun.

October is the right month: cool mornings, low light, harvest just over.

Cycling in Italy in autumn: 5 things nobody tells you to pack.🎒🚴

8 degrees in the morning, 20 in the afternoon. In autumn one day can have two climates, and you usually find out on the first descent.

What we always pack:
→ A windproof vest. It takes up the space of an apple and saves every descent.
→ Light gloves. Your hands are the first thing to freeze.
→ A rear light, even if you set off in full sun. The days get shorter fast.
→ Glasses with clear lenses. Low afternoon light is more blinding than summer sun.
→ A spare pair of socks. Hit one puddle the wrong way and you'll understand.

Save this. You'll need it sooner than you think.

Save it and send it to your riding buddy đź’ľ

Before we hand you a GPS track, we've ridden it ourselves.

Roads change. A bridge closes for works, a gravel track gets paved, the trattoria where we used to stop gets new owners.

That's why we don't copy our routes off a map. We ride them again, take notes, fix what needs fixing. Then we load them onto the GPS we hand you.

You see a coloured line on a screen. Behind it are hours in the saddle, a few wrong turns and quite a lot of coffees ordered just to ask for directions.

It's work you never see. But you notice it when you don't get lost.

You can see Soave Castle... the hills behind it? Almost nobody rides up there.

Soave has a medieval castle, battlements running down the hillside and an old town you can walk around in half an hour. Everybody knows that. The guidebooks say so too.
What they don't tell you is what lies behind it. In 2018 the Soave hills became Italy's first site recognised by the FAO as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System. Pergola vineyards, dry-stone walls, white gravel roads climbing between the rows.

In October the Garganega vines turn yellow and gold. Ride through them and it feels like you're the only one who knows this place exists.

We've been riding up here for years. Every autumn still feels like the first time.

You can forget a phone number. You can forget where you parked, what you had for lunch on Thursday, how a movie ended. You can’t forget how to ride a bike.
Your brain filed that one away as permanent, tucked into a part of you that’s evolutionarily old and built to outlast time and neglect. Neurologically speaking, every cyclist has their own signature: pressure on the pedals, rhythm, balance. Once those circuits form, they don’t disappear. Years without riding. Then you get back in the saddle. And your body already knows what to do, because the bike is part of you.
If you’ve been thinking about getting back on, know this: you already did the hard part, years ago.
We’ll take care of the rest. Day tours by e-bike or traditional bike around Verona, Valpolicella and Lake Garda. Or full weeks planned down to the last detail. All designed by people who never stopped riding.
