Continuing from yesterday trying to get you up to date....
We arrived in Dubrovnik after near zero sleep on the ferry and drove to the site we had already booked, just a short trip round the other side of the port and luckily we were allowed to check in even though it was only 8:30am ( Caravan and camping club UK please take note ) after setting up and getting a well needed shower we set off to Dubrovnik old town on the bus. We paid for the Dubrovnik pass for the attractions which included the " Dubrovnik Wall Walk " an hour and a half walk round the city walls with some very impressive views although some sections were a bit too high for Tina but she managed ( well done love ). To relax after the hot and long walk with many steps we booked at boat trip that took us around the headland visiting some cool caves where we also watched people jumping in off the rocks, nutters!!
We had also arranged to meet Paula Middlemas and Howard for a couple of drinks to celebrate Paula's birthday.
After such a long day (days) there was no way we were cooking so we set off to find somewhere to eat. After a short walk back to the marina we found a little gem of a restaurant Orsan Restaurant right on the waters edge of the marina, the food was excellent as were the staff, Thank You.
To say we slept well that night is an understatement but we had to be up early to get to our next stop......................

So As some may know already during our trip from Veco Equense to Matera we encountered a issue with the Campers rear brakes, the pads had worn down and were metel to metal on the discs. It was too far to get to Bari in one go plus we didnt need to be at the ferry until 6pm next day so we found a Sosta just short of Bari, on the coast at a place called Capitola. It was right on the coast and after setting up the Camper we cycled off to to the beach, which was mainly rocky but had some nice little pebbly coves, we found one and were amazed at the colour and clarity of the sea. we had taken a couple of beers along with our crisps and water and we had a very enjoyable afternoon on the beach ... AND Dennis could not resist a bit of skinny dipping in that beutiful water.
On our way to the Sosta we googled motor factors in Bari and using their "contact us " page asked if the could get hold of a set of brake pads for F***y and we would pick them up next day.... they never replied but the next day we headed into Bari calling at the motor factors on the way in. OMG what a place, there were 6 to 8 guys on the phone, rushing round the shop, which by the way was a huge place under a row of shops. Now with my limited Italian and the older guy of the staff's broken english we managed to agree that I wanted rear brake pads and that even though our camper was on the year they changed design we opted for the earlier model, with the old chap saying he would change them if they were wrong ..... great I thought coz I didnt intend to change them until we got into Croatia as we didn't want to miss the ferry. However as we were driving from the shop to the port we went past a huge car park where there was car washes, cafe, toilets and it was nice and level. We doubled back and parked up in the corner out of the way and as Tina made a brew and a sandwich. I set about changing the brake pads, thinking if they were the wrong ones I could cycle back to the motor factors and change them. Thank goodness they were the right one's and it didnt take to long to get them sorted.
Off to the port and we found a road where we could park for a few hours until we had to catch the ferry and we took the chance to look around Bari, which for a port had some great places to visit. Being up early we were both a bit peckish and we stumbled across a little bar selling beer and all kinds of fish panini's, Tinas dream place as they had a very nice Rose wine on offer. We found out after chatting with the owner that she had only been open for ten days. What a great place it was, with good wine good beer and very good food, service was spot on and the prices very resonable. Well done Martinelli - Fish O'Clock
We walked back to the Camper made a brew and set of to the port only about 5 mins away. Check in was slow but straight forward, producing our booking, our passports & our vehicle documents.
We had been unable to book a cabin on what was a 10pm to 8am crossing so we decided to try and get one at check in.... It was then we were told that this "ship" does not have cabins nor does it have reclining chairs, in fact it was a down right shambles of a journey that saw Tina trying to sleep on a bench seat, me sat in an upright chair all night and people just dossing where they could. How on earth the ferry company gets away with it I dont know. There was no safety messages, announcements regarding emergency muster points and ships signal etc. I will be taking the matter further.
Some, obviousy seasonde passengers brought "blow up " air beds and slept on them in the resturant, between tables ..... What a mess
Anyway It was goodbye Italy and hello Croatia .... I'll finish there for now and let you catch up

Right.. where are we up to...After spending 3 nights at Veso Equense it was time to move across Italy towards Bari. We had been given a recommendation by some friends Barry & Becky to visit Matera, the oldest continually habitated city in Italy and only 3rd in the world. We decided to break the journey up into two as we found a sosta on route just a short bike ride into Venosa We cycled into the town but it was VERY quiet however we visited the castle, took in some of the local sights then back to the camper for our evening meal and a couple of beers and some lovely sunset pictures.
NEXT DAY
We had been given the address of a farm that took Campers which was a few kilometres out of Matera, however as we were driving through the new part of the city we came across a car park outside the University that was full of Campers. There were no services but didn't need them so we pulled on there after all it was free.... and a short walk later (1.5km) we were in the old part of the city. We decided to book an English speaking guided tour as we heard from B&B that there was a lot to see. They weren't wrong, what a fantastic, interesting and in some ways sad place it was, sad because in 1968 the Italian government made everyone move out of Matera old town and gave them accommodation in the new town... Google Matera for the rest of the story.
After a pretty good sleep on the car park we headed off, again towards Bari for the ferry

We have spent the last two nights at a place called Veco Equense just outside Sorrento at a campsite called Camping Sant Antonia, right on the port area. Lovely site. We spent the first night just chilling after driving from Pisa. We ate at the site resturante which was so good we ate there again on the second night. All home cooked food, very tasty and at a reasonable price. Our first full day took us to Pompeii on a VERY crowded train.
Pompeii has long been on our bucket list and didn't disappoint. It was vast but luckily our guide was very good, informative and passionate.
Today (Friday) took us in the opposite direction on the train.... to Sorrento. A long day and a 6.1 mile walk around Sorrento's lovely streets and port saw us ready to get back to our van. We purchased some fish on the way back and we are going to cook ourselves tonight. Tomorrow we set off towards Bari for our ferry to Dubrovnik but because of our previous cancellation we have a couple of days to get there so plan to stop on the way Materna being one place recommended to us by a couple of people we've met on our travels. Thanks Barry & Becky.
Right now it's beer o'clock so more later...

So..a bit of a catch up... We travelled to pisa and found a really friendly guy working at a Sosta not far from Pisa central and tower. 7 euro to park from midday until 6pm. We cycled into town seeking the famous monument, there were pretty good cycle paths most of the way ... we were still following Google maps as we rounded a corner onto what we thought was the next street we had to go down then BOOM .... what a magnificent sight. We went on to do the obligatory photo of us pushing against the tower before enjoying a great lunch with a glass of Pironi. After viewing the tower ( no we didn't go up ) and the magnificent el duomo we cycled back to the Sosta and headed for our overnight stop an hour down the road.. see next post. Had a really good day and it was far better than we expected.
