🫏 If there is a strongly identifying element in Vietri sul Mare, this is the little donkey, in the local dialect ‘’o ciucciariell’
🎨 This year, on the occasion of the centenary of the little donkey, the municipality of Vietri sul Mare organized an exhibition. 32 are the artists involved, including master ceramists, artisans, and students from the Vietri school of ceramics.
🤌🏼 But why did the donkey become the symbol of Vietri?
Traditionally, the donkey was the only means of transport on the Amalfi Coast. It transported lemons, products of the land, from the Lattari Mountains down to the sea.
👨🎨Richard Dölker, a German artist who arrived in Vietri in 1923, was deeply fascinated by it. It was he who transformed it into the symbol of our town.
💪🏼The Vietri donkey, with its tenacity and perseverance, perfectly embodies the soul of the ceramist. And that is why artists create a personal interpretation of it.
🏋️♂️And the donkey carries upon itself the weight of tradition and local history.
